What can you do? You can accept the fact that sometimes people, in general, completely suck. Some nurses have that "eat their young" rep for a reason. That's not to say that some of the best people in the world aren't nurses, that's absolutely not true. But my experience with a few nurses nurses (and frankly quite a few people on this site lately ) may PROFESS to be in the business of caring, but have absolutely no consideration for other people's feelings. But MOST nurses aren't like this. MOST nurses i've had the pleasure of working with have been absolute angels, and even though i'm just a volunteer right now, they know that someday i'll be one of them, and hopefully someday i'll be a doctor. So i'm sorry you had to sit through that verbal sewage, LPN stands for Licensed Practical Nurse. And anyone dim enough to debate that doesn't have an opinion worth its breath.

You're over this too, right? An awful thing happened to your baby but this was NOT your fault. Also...you have to know that babies don't think like that. Their little brains aren't complex enough to formulate "what did i do to make you do this" thoughts. They see the correlation between you and safety, their needs being met, and their happiness. They understand that when they need something, you get it for them. They cry when they need things, but they don't understand that their crying influences your actions. They have no idea that they can call the shots sometimes. You're a good mom. You had absolutely nothing to do with your son being neglected. Those wicked little toads deserve things too horrible for us to give them.

Maybe not, but it's refreshing to see someone that IS anti-child abuse :( Is he ok now? That's absolutely awful, how can you just "forget" to feed one of your charges? Especially over that length of time, it just doesn't seem accidental Poor munchkinface my daughter didn't start daycare until she was 4. Absolutely DO NOT blame you for being apprehensive.

So far, too effing much i'm a single parent, i've been slowly buying stuff a little at a time for the past few months so i don't get hit with it all at once. SO FAR i've spent about $250 for 2 Littman stethoscopes, a BP cuff from allheart.com, a few penlights, a truly badass storage clipboard with a calculator on it, bandage scissors...and a couple other things i honestly can't think of right now. All i need are the cheap things, like alcohol swabs, pens, tape, etc...and scrubs. That's gonna be the killer. But i can't buy those till the last minute because going through 3 straight semesters (i took spring, summer, and now i'm going into the fall) has absolutely wrecked my cute little figure, so now i look like an elephant. A very short, bloated elephant. And my school is absolutely anal about the colours we have to wear, and i of course have nothing that will work. So as far as "bring cash," i really think you should ask your school what they had in mind. If they want to fit you for scrubs and force you into buying them on the spot, that might get a little pricey. If they want you to wait to buy books and make it a class trip...they're insane, but that's going to be worse. If they want you to buy your ID badge, you can probably find that in the sofa. And if it's just orientation...they might mean "our vending machines/cafeteria people don't take cards."

UNIBALL!! the ones that claim to prevent cheque fraud, the ink embeds itself in the paper for security and for god's sake get the CLICKY kind. it's either that lose the cap (and you will), and jack your scrubs up. you get ink all over them, the tips poke through...it's just a nasty thing all around.

Also...HEY! You'e gonna have a BABY! A teeny LITTLE small screaming cute little tiny LITTLE LITTLE person! Why do girls always think tiny things are cuter than normal things?? Damn me and my stereotypicality. Anyway, that's awesome. Congrats!

Can you talk to your school about possibly going part time? my school doesn't offer it, but a lot of other ones do. If you were on the edge thinking about full time, do you think you could handle going part time?

Just watch the shade differences between the shirt and the scrubs, they're SUPER soft and comfy but the fabric is slightly stiffer than the average t-shirt, so sometimes the shade on the shirt is a couple shades lighter than it will be on the scrubs. Best thing to do is get the shirt the right colour, then re-dye the scrubs a bit darker if you need to. Trying to darken is easy, but lightening is sort of like moving mountains with a wet noodle for a lasso. And yeah, i'm in school. i'm starting NS in January, this is my last semester of pre-reqs but i'm taking a lot of gen. ed. stuff for my masters in molecular bio later on. So this semester i've finally settled on pathophysiology, calculus I, patho micro, an ancient history class (greece and the near east), med term, and organic chemistry I for a grand total of 18 hours. also i'm taking a yoga class for 1 hour, but i don't count it because i'd be doing it anyway on my own. i am the coffee girl. the girl with all the coffee.
