MedTech LPN/RN graduates
Thx Emmi7! I would just suggest that you get everything that you can out of your clinical experiences-good & bad! You will NEVER leave any nursing program knowing/remembering everything that was taught to you, so don't try to:no: Learn to master you assessment skills-which you have plenty of time to do. Assessment is a HUGE part of practicing as well as a part of your NCLEX questions. My biggest advice for passing NCLEX would be to start doing practice questions-NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I started exactly 1 year prior to taking my boards (I was determined). I bought/checked out books from the library that included tons of NCLEX questions in content area questions that we were working on. Kaplan test strategies is a must to have in order to help you dissect the questions. There are tons of other books as well that have been suggested on this site. ATI was VERY helpful!!!!!!!!! Trust that MedTech has/will prepare you with the knowledge that is needed to pass NCLEX!!! You just need to understand and recognize what NCLEX is asking. Practicing questions will definitely help!!! I apologize for the late response, I don't tend to check daily....but I will try in order to help in any way that I can. Congrats!!!! IT'S ALMOST OVER!!!!!!! Krogers, RN

MedTech LPN/RN graduates
Hi- I am a recent MedTech grad (04-30-11) I obtained a job at St. Vincent hospital shortly before graduating as a graduate nurse and upon passing my boards (on the FIRST try) I transitioned over to an RN position. I took my boards on June 2, found out that I passed via the PVT trick on June 3, got the quick results confirming that I passed on June 4, and began RN orientation on June 5!! I have since helped 2 other classmates obtain positions on my floor (Med/Surg) and more are coming. While there are some Indiana hospitals that won't hire students from Non NLN accredited schools, there are hospitals that hire MedTech students. You have to be diligent in your search. Good luck with your choices!!! Krogers, RN

Harrison College
Hi! I am not a Harrison College student, but I do know that they are up for their NLNAC accredidation. They are set to achieve this in the Fall of this year, so it may be a good decision to go there. Here's a link http://nlnac.org/Forms/candidacy.asp Good Luck!!!

MedTech College
In response to nursemel86, to categorize a "few" nurses that you have come in contact with that happened to attend MedTech School of Nursing is wrong! Any individual that goes to any particular college, whether it be IvyTech, U of I, IU, ITT tech, etc put forth an effort in order to obtain the knowledge and skills to become exceptional nurses! I have come across numerous "University Nurses" that I would consider incompetent, but I did not associate those nurses with that particular school. I based my "opinion" (which is what it was) on the abilities, or lack of on that particular nurse(s). You as an individual have the take the initiative to obtain an understanding for the science of nursing. It is not up to the school! Please understand that all University, Private, For-Profit schools for nursing take the same NCLEX exam!!! You are not provided an Authorization to Test form from the Pearson education based on the school that you attended. From my understanding........if everyone is required to take the same boards and required to obtain the same level of knowledge in order to pass............and MedTech students pass:confused: All pre-nursing and nursing students are working towards the same goal, which is providing EXCEPTIONAL care to our patients! Let's uplift one another. Please

Med Tech, U of Indy...which one?
Oh, and if I could add one more thing- Although Clarian doesn't accept students that didn't graduate from an NLNAC school, they hire Medical Assistants that have graduated from Med Tech . They also aren't supposed to hire ASN's, only BSN's due to their magnet status- and..... they do. So I really believe that it's who you know within the field. IU also hires MA's that have come from Kaplan and they are not accredited. I really, truly believe that they will eventually hire Med Tech students and other students from new schools due to the demand that EVERYONE is experiencing. I might add that 80% of our instructors work at Clarian and IU as RN's.

Med Tech, U of Indy...which one?
:yeah:Congrats on passing the TEAS!!!!!!!! That's great!!! The interview isn't bad at all. They just go over the program again, a little more in depth and make sure that you are really dedicated to obtain this degree. It really wasn't bad at all. Just the normal questions- Why do you want to be a nurse?, What do you think that you could bring to the field of nursing? Your committment? Things of that sort. I would dress up as I would for any interview. I saw some new students that were dressed inappropriately -not sure if it made a difference, but to be on the safe side, it wouldn't hurt if you have the attire. Just remember, it's somewhat overwhelming in the beginning- But it DOES get better ( I promise you). Get whatever you can get out of those instructors because most also teach at U of I, IU, Marian, etc during the day. Whatever you don't get in class, I urge you to google and research, research, research! Because as I said before, it is an accelerated course and we all take the same boards and are expected to know as much if not more that the universities. Congrats again!!! I apologize for the late response. I don't get on as much as I used to, but I just set my account up to email me when there is a post, so I should respond much quicker next time. Let me know if I can answer any more questions. About the school, an instructor, or anything in general Awaiting last day (March 22, 2011)

Med Tech, U of Indy...which one?
Hi again! Classes are scheduled M-F 5:30 -10:10p.m for classes worth 5 credits. 3 credit classes have just been adjusted to 5:30-8:30p.m. You only attend classes 4 days of the week starting out and it could be on any day within the week (M-F). Once you get into your clinicals, if you are a night student, your classes are on Saturdays (7-7p.m.) I know!! But it really is very educational and I feel it is beneficial to applying everything that you have learned. I only have 2 classes a week along with the Saturday clinical, so it gives me time to prepare and do some extra studying. The majority of students (me included) receive financial aid, grants, and also have to apply for Stafford loans. Along with all of that, there is money paid out of pocket depending on how much you receive in grants and financial aid. It is very expensive! A suggestion would be to not buy their books and possibly renting them through Chegg.com. I feel that they overcharge for the books which makes the out of pocket money required to increase. Some books, of course should be purchased to keep and use as a reference later, but the others are extremely abnormally expensive! Tuition alone is 4875.00 . Books, ATI fees, Clinical rotation fees, etc., are not included in that price. I would have to reiterate that it isn't a horribly bad school. Its a new school and I'm sure that the other well known Nursing schools had alot of the same growing pains at some point before obtaining their accreditation. So I think that it will be ok in the end. MedTech is accredited through the Indiana Board of Nursing along with IvyTech, Marian, U of I, etc. You can check the website at in.gov Yes, Indiana Weslyan accepts their credit as well as a few other schools if you want to transition from ASN to BSN. I could double check for you. Let me know if you need anything else. I would be more than willing to honestly answer any and all questions that you may have. I was most definitely in your shoes a year ago and would have welcomed any and all information before attending MedTech.

Med Tech, U of Indy...which one?
I am currently enrolled in the MedTech night program with 2 more quarters to go. MedTech is just like any other school starting out. They are accredited, but as far as NLNAC accreditation, they are in their candidacy right now. They had to have a successful graduating class of RN's in order to accomplish that. Accreditation with NLNAC is expected to be obtained by the end of the year or the beginning of next year. I, too came from Ivy Tech and was tired of retaking classes thinking that I would obtain a spot within the program only to realize that I had been wasting money and time. I was tired of going to school and MedTech had no waiting list when I started. As far as recommending the school, I would have to say....If you want to get in and get out and don't mind putting forth effort to teach yourself at times, then go for it. Some of the instructors are also instructors for IU, U of I, and other Universities, so the knowledge is there. There are times though that since it is an accelerated program that things are rushed through. There are also times when it seems as though no one within the whole faculty knows what is going on! It is extremely expensive and if I had the patience to endure more schooling, I would have waited on a more established school. However, I'm here and will be graduating in Mar 2011:yeah:. Alot of hospitals state that they do not accept MedTech grads but in reality most do. We had a graduating class in December and they all have jobs within a variety of hospitals. I do know that Clarian does not accept any grads that come from schools that are not NLNAC accredited. That includes ITT, Brown Mackey, Harrison, etc. Anyhow, to make a long story short- if you're tired of going to school to obtain an ASN degree, MedTech may work for you. NLNAC accredited or not- everyone from every school in Indy take the SAME NCLEX exam. It does not go by what school you attended. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions regarding MedTech. Good Luck in your decision

MedTech Nursing Program
Yes, I went to an info session and was very hesitant at first but I also spoke with some of the students that are currently enrolled in the ASN program and they had very good things to say about it. I didn't want to waste anymore time waiting on getting into the ASN program at IvyTech (which is where I am coming from). Hundreds apply and there are only 120 spots available for the ASN/LPN programs. It is VERY expensive at MedTech, but I am looking to get into the field as soon as I possibly can.

MedTech Nursing Program
Enrolled into the ASN Nursing program at MedTech which begins June 29th. Just wanted any info as to what I should expect. How are the quarters, financial aid, clinicals in general? Are you assigned to a hospital close to you or are you given what is available. Any info would greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
