Question about The University of Memphis
I don't work at Baptist East anymore. I quit in January because I was starting nursing school at the University of Memphis and it makes it even harder to get through school if I were to have a job. When I did work there I worked in the Humphreys Building for a Doctor that had a practice. It was a really great job and I wish I could have kept it.

Question about The University of Memphis
For the most part, the teachers really are there to help. I have run across a few whos egos are too large and therefore don't try to help as much as they could. If there is something you don't understand see the teacher after class or make an appointment to see them because they will help you. One thing that is vitally important is time management. As another poster said they cram a lot of classes into your schedule so planning out your time to study is important. Each set of tests are within days from each other (so you will have 5 tests in two weeks) and by the end I was always just trying to survive. You can do it!! Its really exciting! On another note, I am starting my Adult Health semester in the Fall and if there is anyone that could give me any advice I would great appreciate it! Thanks so much.

Union vs. U of M?
Hey everyone. I am working on my prereqs for nursing school and I am wondering if anyone went to either Union in Memphis or the University of Memphis? I have heard that the U of M is a really good school but it is also a two year program, and at Union I could be done with a year. Anyway if anyone could help me that would be great, thanks!

Question about The University of Memphis
I don't have any children which is a plus if I want to keep my job. Thanks so much for the help. I noticed your name, I am also seriously considering CRNA...although it is still a little early for me to know. Good luck with everything.

Question about The University of Memphis
Hi everyone. I am planning on starting at the U of M in the Spring of 2008. I have a little 15 hour/week job at Baptist East. I really like it and it pays well. I was wondering what yall thought about me being about to continue working with the load of school? Thanks so much for your help.

Premed to prenursing?
I completely agree with the amount of sacrificies in my life that I am just not sure that I am willing to make, just to have MD behind my name. Also, I agree with something that was said earlier that I have always wanted to be a doctor, when I was a child it seemed like I had an infinite amount of time and now time is finite and I am realizing how long it will take and the amount of sacrifices I will have to make. The only thing I have known that I wanted to be longer than I have known I wanted to be a doctor, is a mom. I just can't make the sacrifice of being a mother and being there for my children to be a doctor. Anyway, thanks so much for all of your comments and advice. I really appreciate it. I don't have anyone around me that is really an objective party, so it is nice to find that here. Thanks again.

Premed to prenursing?
Wow its so nice to know that other people went through the same thought process. This is exactly the way I feel and exactly what I'm thinking about. Thanks so much for your help with everything. I am sort of mourning that fact that I may not be a doctor. I keep seeing friends of mine get into medical school and law school and I think I won't be able to experience getting into such a rigorous school. But you are right, I have to do it for me and what I want for the rest of my life.

Premed to prenursing?
Alright, I am definitely going to look at an Occupational Outlook Handbook. Also, I am starting the process of volunteering at a hospital to help facilitate my decision. I am two classes away from being done with my premed prereqs(physics II and bio). Oddly enough, without even trying I have taken all but one of my prereqs for nursing school. The schools I am applying to I don't think have a waitlist for their program. I do have a degree in business that I got in may of 2006, because I also have a love for business. There is just a certain part of me that feels that I have lost the love i would have had for being a doctor because of this process.

Premed to prenursing?
Ok so I have another question. For those of you who have made the switch, I know that you sort of searched inside yourself and found out what you wanted in your life, but I was wondering if there were any books or literature on what it is like to be a nurse and to be a doctor? I feel like I can't make a completely informed decision because I'm not sure what it is I'm deciding between. Thanks so much everyone.

Premed to prenursing?
Wow its nice to see that there are more people that have made this switch. I thought I was having a quarter-life crisis. Thanks so much for your comments, everyone on this site is extremely nice. Thanks so much. I know this is a decision I will have to make for myself, I just feel a little ill everytime I try to think about it, because its the rest of my life. Thanks so much.

Premed to prenursing?
I have also considered that and since I think I want to work in pediatric oncology I really would like to be more involved with my patients. I have just always thought doctor, doctor, doctor and I never considered patient time and connection. Thanks for your comments I have given that a lot of consideration also. I just don't want to get 20 years down the road and think that I made the wrong decision...I don't know tough decisions I guess.

Premed to prenursing?
Hey everyone. I have wanted to be a doctor as long as I can remember but the more I get into premed classes and applying processes I continue to think of how much of a time committment it is. I was wondering if anyone else has switched from Premed to nursing? I want to have a family and have time to spend with them and all the doctors I work with don't have anytime with their families. I suppose I am just worried about the amount of sacrifices medical school is going to take, that I may not be willing to make.
