The CRNA does check positioning but the when moving a patient, the CRNA's responsibility is at the head of the bed, that is the bottom line..... your scenario is not the norm... you can argue all you want to try and save face but the the reality is not what you describe. What are you talking about, I am a CRNA and have worked in several different setting from the big city (Denver) to the rinky dink (Raton) and the OR nurse handles this. Please do not overstep your knowledge base, if you don't know just say you don't know.

Hate to say this but Oral Surgery is a branch of dentistry. Dentists perform a residency, take boards and then are certified for oral surgery.

Probably beating a dead horse here, but just kind of scanning and noted this entry. Ketamine will cause tachycardia (unless the patient is catecholamine depleted) and will cause a marked increase in oral secretions. You are using atropine as "drying" agent, I would emphasize that if your department is using a drug (comment for all in general) then I would be intimately familiar with the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the drug. Misinformation is dangerous.

Just a teaching point here (from a CRNA) ..... If a patient is actively gagging then the patient is actively protecting his/her airway from aspiration. I personally would not have had an issue with you removing the oral airway (I probably would have beat you to it if the patient didn't beat us both to it) camo

If you all really want a non-harmful but very noxious stimulus, borrow an anesthesia providers nerve stimulator and test the facial nerve with a tetorifice stimulation..... I will guarantee you that is definite
