  1. I have two years remains nag of a five year contract with Peer Assistance. I want to relocate to Okla to be closer to extend family. Has anyone moved while on contract?
  2. Thanks so much for your reply. I attempted to PM you but was unable to do so because I do not have the required "15 quality posts." While my grades are competitive, particularly in science, I don't expect to be ranked in the top ten. Maybe I am being under confident but I would expect most applicants to have excellent grades, good GRE, CCRN as well as good references. Seems like a grat deal of placement will depend on who is requesting what facility in a given year. If you do find time to elaborate on your answer in a few days I would appreciate it. Best of luck to you with your studies!
  3. Thanks for doing this. I am in the process of applying and reading your responses is answering a lot of questions for me. 1) what laptop in your opinion is best for class and studying? Have you found any other gadgets or iPhone apps to be especially beneficial for either class or studying? If so, what are they? 2) thanks for reviewing the class schedule. I found that helpfull when envisioning when I might be in class versus studying? Could you provide us with an example of how you organized your week? It seems that planning and organization of study time is important from day one. 3) I have been told by several people that the interview is KEY. Any suggestions for the actual interview? Were you awarded your first choice of clinical sites? Any advice on how to enhance my chances at my top clinical site?
  4. You are young an single. Get in touch with some travel nurse agencies. There is still $ out there if you are willing to go anywhere.
  5. Curious how your search for a preceptor turned out. Was the web site helpful? I flagged it for future use because I plan on doing a distance program and will have to find some of my own clinicals.
  6. I live and work in Denver. Go to Sumner's website- sumnerhealth.com It does a great job of outlining the structure of the program.
  7. In interviewed with Sumner during the set of interviews held in Denver in April. Overall I was impressed and they seem confident regarding their pending accredidation. Yes, a new program seems risky on some levels, but we will be pioneers!
  8. I left a good telemetry job to take a travel assignment for six months. They pay was fantastic- I took home about $1,100 per week including the monthly housing allowance. I don't regreat it because it allowed me to pay off school debt quickly. I then took a direct hire to get some much desired ICU experience. Yes, you have complete control of where go accept a position. No, you don't forfeit housing if you stay in your area. I would suggest contacting the well known agencies.
  9. There is a great deal of overlap between med school pre-reqs and nursing. In fact, your additional science courses will make you a strong CRNA candidate. I would encourage you to pursue an accelerated BSN program. Although some schools will accept an alternative Bachelor's degree and an associates degree in nursing, it would probably be less time consuming to go the accelerated BSN route. Associate degree programs will get you the RN license but will take just as much if not more time than the accelerated BSN. Besides, you already have on the basic core courses as well as electives to easily aquire a second Bachelor's. Good luck.
  10. CRNA programs will look at your core science courses. A's in Chem, Anat & physiology, Microbiology, etc, will have much greater weight in terms of consideration for admission than an A in intro to Sociology. I think that this will hold true regardless of which year each course is taken. Grad schools do look at the gpa of the last sixty hours and this is done for two reasons. One, it is typically the average of the junior and senior level courses. Two, it gives students who might have stumbled their freshman year room to demonstrate that they settled down and were able to perform at the college level. For example, a student might earn a C in Freshman composition their first semester but later earned an A in a 4000 level literature course. That type of transcript indicates a progressive level of maturity and focus. A transcript that postpones entry level courses until the last two years might be looked as the transcipt of someone who changed their major midway through their studies. Postponing entry level courses in order to obtain a higher GPA on the last sixty hours is a "gimicky" approach to impressing CRNA admission boards. Courses are offered in a level of progression for a reason- each course is designed to build on its prereq. Stick to your universities degree plan, do well, and don't worry about other peoples strategies. Again, from my research the best stategy is a solid gpa in core science courses. Good luck!
  11. UOF is very expensive. Fort Hays State University in Hays Kansas has on online program that is much more reasonable in terms of cost. Shop around for an RN to BSN program that suits your needs. Save your money for grad school!
  12. Take the advice on not getting sucked into shift wars. I work in a busy SICU at a teaching hospital. I rotate from days to nights- a month of each. Having the perspective of both shifts, they each offer their advantages and disadvantages. Both days and nights offer unique challenges and I agree that those who evaluate candidates for graduate school are aware of the big picute. Do what shift works best with your life and schedule and learn everything you can.
  13. Thanks for the information. I understand that regardless of classroom hours, CRNA school will be all consuming. Good luck with your letter!
  14. I've been lurking in this forum for years, but this is my first post. I am prepared to apply to both Tx Wesleyan and TWU this fall. I am curious about the classroom hours of the first year of the program. Current students, could you please let me know what they are? Do you attend classes Monday thru Friday? What time do they start and end? I tried to look at the registration page on each schools website but the anesthesia courses are not listed. Thanks!
