  1. PinoyNP and Zuzanne4: I am truly grateful for the great remarks (advise) you've both posted. Yeah I do agree with you on that point. However, for us, what is important is to get a job. You are not here in the Philippines and you are not aware of the situations our nurses are experiencing here...Too many graduates...no available local nursing job! Yes I am pretty sure that you have heard many of our stories based on this great forum...It is indeed a pity that often our nurses settle for a job less fitting for a title called RN...Im sure that you are aware that not only spain hire RN caregivers...In fact Canada and UK I supposed hire more filipino RN to work as caregivers...for quite some time now...Some even go to UK with student visa to work as caregivers (and not to study) but for many of us here in the Philippines..it is much much better than settling for a minimum salary of less than P10,000 here in the Philippines. This would not happen if our dreams of working in the US has not been halted with this retro thing..But we do not blame anyone here! This has already been argued, debated and well discussed here in several forums right and so much of this who-is-to-blame game, what is important now is for all of us to move on....Yes I do agree that it is very unfitting for an RN to work as caregivers somewhere outside our country..It is a pity.. but for now, it is the best choice that we have..that this government of ours can offer to some of us just to alleviate this employemnt problem of ours...well, I still believe that no matter what work a person does, what is important is that he strives hard to make his life a lot lot better in the future..I do believe that it is the best that we can do now...at least for some of us who are willing to sacrifice a little...Yes maybe you two are right...Our government is selling us to other countries to work unfitting of our professions and degrees, but this is the only better option we have now and so we grab these opportunities...In a little while US will again need our services and of course we again continue our pursuit to work as US RNs right? Its just now....but we remain hopeful that a brighter future will shine soon!
  2. Hello!:) I am an Registered Nurse here in the Philippines, an NCLEX passer as well in 2007, passed CGFNS and IELTS...I have been waiting for the US to reopen but sadly up to now..i am still here. Well, last December I did apply in an agency of POEA (Proyecto Piloto) to work as a caregiver in Spain...The minimum requirements are: Local RN and Spanish language attendance of at least 120 hours...Well, i took time studying (again!!!) Spanish language at Instituto de Cervantes! Whew fees are really high!!! and a module would cost you P2500 for 30 hours only...Well, i can now converse in spanish fluently but up to now there is no news about us going to Spain. The POEA has at least 200+ job orders for caregivers to spain and some of the agencies that cater to applicants are Kr*** and Mab***** agencies...Well, they say that March or April could be our possible deployment...Weve been waiting for almost 3 mos now and we really hope and we are praying that we can really go to Spain very soon...Many of us applicants are NCLEX passers but we will work there as caregivers!!! not RNs..our only consolation is that Spain is part of EU group and we can got our citizenship much easier than working somewhere else plus the fact that Spain is much more like the Philippines in some cultural aspects... Are there anyone here who has application to work in Spain...Please do update us of your status..Thank you very much. Gracias a todos y Adios:wink2::wink2::)
  3. Im Paulo, 40 years old and 2 year old in the profession...I graduated with the highest honor from among the so much younger gen.... I am enjoying every bit of nursing now... kinda hard at first but you will adjust.... and ive never experienced being ridiculed by the youngters... nor being bullied LOL Go reach for the stars!!!!
  4. Thank you very much suzanne for that very awakening reply. Yes I do agree with you that our government here in the Philippines has been into several agreements already with some countries to send us work abroad as OFW but the reality is most available jobs are Domestic helpers and caregivers.....MANY OF OUR GOOD TEACHERS here are DOMESTIC HELPERS abroad! What a sad plight!!!!! In the POEA website, the POEA people are boastful of the PROYECTO PILOTO, an agreement between Phil and Spain for nurses who wants to work in that country.... You know what??? I emailed these agencies and sent them my CV...Oh how frustrating....either no reply from them or they would say Spain has no demand for nurses!!!! How sad!!! Our government is all PRESS RELEASE!!!! (Pa-pogi lang!!!) to make themselves look as if they have a lot of projects... Wake up leaders!!!!!
  5. Dear Suzanne: Thank you very much for that reply. You are really a great person with your always-ready-advises to us Filipino nurses. You are a wonderful gift to us! Suzanne, are you saying that I should not push through with this plan? I am a US registered nurse and just like the hundred of thousands caught in this retro thing, I am desperate to find an alternative country to work as a nurse (or even caregiver at this point in time). I have chosen Spain because I can speak the Spanish language (not very fluent though) but I am currently studying the Spanish language to be fluent. Suzanne, are there links that you would recommend in order for me to get a nursing license in Spain? or the application forms where I can download and apply online. By the way, my priority date is July 2007. Far far ahead right?? Thank you Suzanne and God bless you! Paul
  6. I just would like to follow up this inquiry. Is there really a possibility that we can find a nursing Job in Spain? Who among here are already working as a nurse in Spain? Can u help us with this plight please? What are the steps we need to take in applying to work there? Thank you very much in advance! Muchas Gracias!!
  7. I have attended the NC-CLEX ACLS sometime in year 2005! In fairness, they did deliver very well the training course, although, THEIR FEES ARE REALLY VERY VERY EXPENSIVE!!! If you want a real training, GO TO A HOSPITAL!!! WORK AS A REAL NURSE and not to practice or train using DUMMIES!!! DUMMIES dont have lives! If the hospital dont accept any applicants as of now, then at least you VOLUNTEER!! That's the best option you've got now! Its cheaper and you work on real human being called patients!!!! Good luck!!
  8. I am a nurse here in the Phil who dreams of working in the US someday...Whatever the odd sare, I think working the US is still an ultimate dream for most of us You be happy or not? Well, it all depends of what you aim in life. Good luck to all
  9. I have taken several of these certificate trainings here in the Philippines. I should say that It helped me a lot in gaining confidence in my clinical skills especially in a more advanced areas like critical care units. Yes, I do agree that these certificates may only be valid here in the Philippines but these are still useful trainings especially for the beginners. One more thing, these advance nursing skills are not taught in our schools right? So you might as well spend few bucks learning those in certificate trainings and seminars. I would recommend CCNAPI (located in PHC) and our local hospitals who offer these trainings. Good luck !
  10. Hello Im Paul, I just took my NCLEX-RN exam in Guam last June 6. It was easy for me to pass that exam because of the strategies I have learned from URC. Most of all, Maam Anaski has taught us where to focus (most commonly asked areas/topics in NCLEX) Yes, Kaplan is very good also. I did consider KAPLAN firts but the FEES ARE VERY HIGH!!! and I couldnt afford it! I paid only 5000 pesos in URC and I think Kaplan costs 21000 pesos. See the difference? Good luck to all!!!
  11. Hello! My name is Paulo, I just turned 40 last June 30. YES I AM A PROUD SECOND COURSER. My first course was really so so unrelated to nursing --- ACCOUNTANCY! I was an accountant for more than 10 years in one of the leading computer school in the Philippines (STI). I graduated from the Nursing course last March 2005. Whew, at first it was really difficult for me to adjust to much younger classmates I had during my those BSN days. Yes, of course I had my share of being left alone most of the time especially during their chit-chats ! I felt different and outcasted at first until Ive known some of my classmates who were also second coursers and guess what? we grew in numbers until we were classified and re-grouped as one section called "The Second Coursers", we were 30+ in that class! And it was really an amazing and beautiful experience! Our ages ranged from 20+ to 40+! Most were already successful professionals in their respective first career choices who shifted gears ang took nursing for one reason or another! I could say SECOND COURSERS perform better in academics compared to non- SC! Being more matured and responsible adults, we took up nursing with dedication and ardent commitment. Everything was done with PASSION! Never did we pay our clinical instructors for special favors! Sometimes our CIs were even threatened with our presence coz we could speak better and more fluent English than them LOL! (It's ok my dear CI's, English is not our native tongue anyway, but please study your English!) Congratulations to all the SECOND COURSERS. Shifting Gear to the Nursing Profession could be the best decision youve ever made in your life! Do not get intimidated with the younger ones! In clinical practice, it is observed that we are more assertive, competitive and more critical in our thinking! Few exceptions though for those SC who bought their diplomas somewhere (Ive read it in one thread here). Shame on you, there are no shortcuts in life! Work hard and you will earn your fruits someday! Do it the easy way and life will not be easy for you!! Someday, you will suffer the consequences of your illegal action. It really shows in the clinical areas those SC with "ready-made" BSN diploma who cant even aspirate a drug from a vial and cant get BP accurately LOL! I have already passed all the stateboard examinations and now awaiting for bigger challenges ahead of me. I know it will come very soon coz I worked and prayed hard for it! Many of us SECOND COURSERS are affected with the ongoing RETROGRESSION but we are less bothered because we can always gol back to our first profession!! Hurray for SECOND COURSERS! Congratulations to all the deserving SECOND COURSERS!!! Fly high!
  12. Has anyone heard about WTR agency based in NY? WTR stands for Worldwide Trade Resources, Inc...please help me i you have heard of the credibility of this agency.... Thank you very much. I am a Filipino RN waiting for miracles to happen. God Bless us all!
  13. Dettedette19, No it is not very hard getting a visa....just prepare your passport....get online and have a schedule of interview then bring your ATT to the consul just in case you are asked about the reason for going to Guam and HOPE FOR THE BEST! thats it! and pls pls pls do not ever think of using this visa to work there or transfer to other states coz THE VISA IS ANNOTATED THAT IT IS VALID ONLY IN GOING TO GUAM AND FOR THE PURPOSE OF TAKING NCLEX ONLY! Good luck!
