Also unions have demanded that our hospital pay 18 credits a year for RN education. I have my BSN...thanks to my UNION. Not all unions are the same. The best Unions are NYSNA and 1199. Get informed people.

You are the reason why RNs are underpaid. Unions have allowed me to get paid 900000/year after 12 years of exp. In NYC. hospitals in NYC that are not unionized pay their RNs far less. Unions demand safe staffing and safe nurse-patient ratio. I am a NYSNA member. When I retire, I will get at least 3K plus a month on top of my 410K. I have an amazing insurance no co/pay. Only $100/month for family health insurance. Your hospital administration couldn't care less about RNs. Unions demand that RNs take their lunch or get paid when they do not. RNs are professionals. Enough of the abuse.

Well, that is your experience. I lived in FL for 7 years, then NYC for 8 years...my experience was different...enjoy your house :)

Actually, I spoke to nurse recruiter from both GA and FL and it appears that you would make more money in GA. I have alot of RN friends who have left FL for GA.

It still does not add up. I live in Queens, my rent is similar than if I lived in FL, my car is paid for etc...I just think that FL nurses are getting paid wayyyyy too low.

I know that as a NYC RN i get paid more money...my cost of living is almost similar then yours. (I rent, I have car, I pay taxes etc...) i lived in FL for 8 years prior to moving to NYC...I hope to move back to FL but it frustrates me. I just don't understand why nurses do not demand higher wages, and why they receive ridiculously low raises...It is really frustrating because we are all doing the same job. Some NYC hospital have phlebotomist,and have the same work conditions as Fl. Maybe someone can explain this to me. How is your work condition? Do you have a "voice" in your hospital? or are you expoected to accept what they give you?

yes, its a full time position...after taxes and medical, dental & vision (approx $130 for family),what would be my approx, take home pay? I just need an idea of what to expect.

I have 7 years experience as an R.N, i am also BLS/ACLS certified, i have an associate's, but will have my BSN in november. I was offered $27.87 plus shift diff. I will be moving from NYC. I know that the salary will not be the same, do you think this is a good offer? Are salaries negociable in Atlanta? thanks guys...:loveya:

I live in NYC, the cost of living is high depending where you live in NYC...i live 30 minutes away from manhattan, i have bills to pay...and still manage to save a good amount of money every paycheck...

that's quite low! NYC new grads make 60k! There are more taxes in NYC, but you still come home with more money...I know because I lived in Florida.

Well on my unit if we receive a patient after 6pm, the next shift must admit them. I think that it is the reasonable thing to do. Some units are crazy...trust me you need to find a unit that truly suits you...DO NOT SETTLE! :nono:
