  1. I work in a PICU and this happens here also. I realize it's hard enough with an adult but even harder with a child. Thank you for expressing this so beautifully. I am having DNR tatooed on my butt!!
  2. I have been in PICU for almost 7 years and 28 yrs on Peds before that. All you say is true and more. I cry at least once a week whether it is a critical child or just because I have helped a family member. I also hear those words daily and it makes me proud that I AM a PICU nurse. Not to toot my own horn but we ARE special nurses but then again nurses ARE special people. God has a plan for all of us and I have been lucky enough to do a job that I love for 30+ years. Thank you God for choosing me to be a PICU nurse and thanks for my coworkers and all nurses.
  3. I was chairperson for our nurses week celebration. Had very small budget for 1250 nurses but we made up baskets, stationery, bath stuff, gardening, cooking, men's etc, as gifts. Also had a very nice reception with our Nurse CEO reading the Nightengale Pledge and I had our mayor read a proclaimation making it Nurses Day in our town. We had the reception on Flo's BD so we had a birthday party theme with different pictures of Flo setting around. Also did a word search and crossword with Flo trivia and awarded prizes for the winners. Our CEO gave a day off with pay as a prize. Our gift was a lunch tote with a small bottle of hand sanitizer from one of our reps. I love reading these posts as I will once again be chair of the committee and am getting some great ideas. Wish our budget would stretch for a pair of shox, lol. Can't see that happening with 1300 nurses, including RN,LPN,CNA,PCA and Unit clerks. Our administration was supportive and we had posters all over the hospital. Now if we can just get our money tree planted we will be set for next year. :chuckle:redbeathe
