  1. Also a member of SPC December 2013 graduating class and still have no job. Passed NCLEX early March. I have put in numerous applications everywhere with only 2 phone interviews just to be rejected cause an internal candidate was hired. I'm not holding my breathe for any of the residency programs here in Tampa Bay area because they get flooded with applications. Also many of the acute care, rehab & SNF employers are starting to require at least 2 years exp. New grad friend from HCC was asked to sign a contract at a SNF because too many RNs are just coming there for 6 months experience then leaving after the employer has went to the expense of training you and paying for your benefits. This is what myself, friends and some of my clinical classmates have run into. GulfCoastRN12 you were very lucky. To the op I wish all the best!!!
  2. Yes, the acceptance letter and the letter of intent, then they are followed by the tan packet.
  3. Stacey2275 - Thanks for the advise. I am just going to take the day off to go to the Lab and go hand deliver the paperwork to SPC then sit down because I will not be able to soon. Also I have some vacation time I have to use.
  4. Thanks scuba girl. I am sure you will know something soon. SPC sent out orientation packets with information for drug and background screening checks on Tuesday, July 7 and several of us received the packets today. We have until 7/22/09 to get the screenings done. The orientation is on 7/23 at 3 p.m. I was told by several advisors at SPC HEC that the packets were for all programs. So I guess after this orientation they will check their lists again and contact the alternates for spots that open up. I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you. Keep us posted.
  5. My packet was in the mail when I got home. They sure do not give a lot of time to get this stuff done. I am going to have to ask for time off to go get the drug screening done. Also, I am going to take the degree audit verfication form and the notarized affidavit to SPC in person so that I can hand deliver it. thepopes-Hope you got some information today. Let us know.
  6. I was told by advisors on Monday July 6 at SPC HEC that the packets being mailed Tuesday were for all programs not just the LPN to RN program. Poor mailpersons!!!!!!!! Everyone has been chasing them. I think I am going to buy my mailman a thank you gift. I have been chasing the man for weeks. I have not been home yet to check my mail but I will post later if I received anything.
  7. I went over to SPC today and spoke with advisor "*" to find out what was going on with my application for the LPN to RN evening program because I had not heard anything or received any letters in the mail yet. There was a problem with my transcripts posting. I got in!!!!!!!!!!! Finally!!!!!!!!! See my saga on the following thread: https://allnurses.com/florida-nurses/transferring-credits-hillsborough-385425-page3.html The advisor "*" and two other advisors who were in the office too told me that more letters for all nursing program options are going out this week. Wonder if that means orientation packets too? Good Luck to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. I went over to SPC today and spoke with advisor "D" to find out what was going on with my application because I had not heard anything or received any letters in the mail yet. Advisor "D" and the other advisors were surprised when looking at my record in their computer systems because my application was submitted along with CPR card and LPN License. Also the grades from my spring classes had posted. Well to make a long story short.... What they told me had happened and what I saw in their computer system was that when whomever reviews applications went in to review my classes against my application-my spring classes had not posted, so I was put into some kind of tickler file to check my record at a later date to see if the classes had posted. Apparently my classes had been posted in one part of their system when HCC sent the transcript but someone did not update another part of their system that is used to review with the application. The advisors apologized and issued my acceptance letter for the August LPN to RN evening program when I was there and had me sign the letter of intent. FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew there was something wrong with my transcripts. That is the reason I went over to talk to them again. We will probably be in the same class. The advisors told me the same thing as you that more letters are going out tomorrow. Wonder if that means orientation packets too. I have to wait and see if I have to drive over and pick the orientation packet up too since I am getting everything at the last minute. They stated that the orientation dates are 7/23 @ 3 p.m. and 8/11 (@ 9 a.m. I think). Thanks for keeping your fingers and toes crossed for me. If I get my orientation packet I will probably go to the 7/23. I will keep you posted.
  9. You may want to go to the Florida page. You may get more responses. Click on Region tab above. Click on United States then click Florida. Lots of posts regarding HCC and SPC. I have been to both institutions in person and online. Have had nothing but positive experiences at both institutions. You might want to look at USF's program, Pasco-Hernando Community College (PHCC), Polk Community College, Manatee Community College. Hope this helps.
  10. Sure hope that we both get something in the mail tomorrow. I live in Tampa in the Carrolllwood/Lutz area so it is easy for me to hop over to Pinellas County via the Veterans Expressway. I have been running through a food drive-thru somewhere for lunch everytime I heard letters might be arriving just to go home and check the mail. I usually make my lunch to save $. I know my mailman thinks I am crazy....Will probably get a letter from the Postmaster stating to quit bothering the mailman. Will let you know if I get anything in the mail. Can't stand waiting.
  11. I looked at the downloadable SPC applications online and the Nursing application with all the deadlines is for the selected admissions process which is for the regular program. It specifically states not for the LPN to RN transitional program. I am going to be extremely mad if those deadlines do apply and they are just lying. I still am wondering about the information sessions. I did not see that online anywhere or know about them. Advisor "D" said nothing about information sessions. I will let you know if I hear anything.
  12. Where did you get the application packet? I downloaded my LPN to RN evening program application off the SPC website and there was no deadline listed. When were the information sessions? I did not see that on their website. Advisor "D" told me that the LPN to RN program application acceptance was on a first come first serve basis. Advisor "D" stated that those application deadlines did not apply to the LPN to RN program. I am going to be extremely mad if it does.
  13. Advisor "D" told me that there is no deadline for the LPN to RN program (day or evening). I was told it is on a first come first serve basis. You were told that there was a deadline? I have not heard anything yet. Have not even received an acceptance letter yet for the LPN to RN evening program. I too have been chasing the mailman. Pretty soon he is going to think I am stalking him. Advisor "D" told me that they were told by someone in the Nursing program that more letters were being mailed out on Monday. But did not know for which nursing programs the letters are for. I would think it would be for all of them. Classes start the last week of August so you would think that they would be making their final choices. Advisor "D" also told me to hold 7/23 and 8/11. As those are possible orientation dates. Again don't know what programs. I can't standing waiting. Poor mailman. Hopefully I will know something by Tuesday or Wednesday.
  14. Still have not heard anything from SPC regarding my application. It is 3 weeks now. Finally, I got my renewed LPN license card in the mail. Gees, they are slow on getting the license renewals out. The waiting is killing me.
  15. thanks stacey2275. i am going crazy waiting to hear if i got into spc's lpn to rn evening program for august 09. my application went in at the end of may because i was waiting for my spring classes to post. it is going on 3 weeks since i turned in my application. also my lpn license expires on 7/31/09. i submitted my current license copy and as soon as my license renewal posted on the doh license verification website i printed it and faxed it to spc records. i even called to make sure they got it and it got added to my application. i told them as soon as i get the card i will fax it. poor mailman....i have been chasing him daily it is killing me waiting for my renewed lpn license and a letter or something from spc. i was told by one of the advisors that they have 36 slots for that class so hopefully i got one of the slots too and we'll be in the same class. i will let you know when i hear something. where do you live? i live in tampa near lutz. tpanative - congrats on your acceptance to erwin. you'll think it is taking forever to finish but the year will fly by before you know it. just make sure that you study and practice your pharmacology math because that is where most people are cut. i attended erwin many moooooooooons ago so the instructors have all changed.
  16. Hi, I just submitted my application to SPC for the August LPN to RN evening program. I am waiting to hear from them. Just finished A & P II lecture and lab (BSC 1086 and 1086L) in the Spring semester at HCC and it transferred/posted as BSC 2086 and 2086L at SPC. I also went back and looked at A & P I which I also took at HCC and it posted as BSC 2085 and 2085L. Hope this helps. I took Microbiology at USF and it is numbered in the 2000. Good luck.
  17. First off, Thank you Lunah for being an overachiever because I don't think many of us could survive this journey without reading your posts. You also give us a good laugh when some of us really need it. I am missing pre-reqs for 3 hours for Arts/Sciences and 1 hour for Sciences supportive of Nursing. They advised I take College Algebra for the Arts/Sciences because I only have 1 class for Math and ??? dunno for Sciences supportive of Nursing. Any suggestions. Thanks, Gina
  18. From a fellow Floridian you will do great. Good Luck and think positive!!!
  19. I took the DSST Ethics exam. I used a popular publishing company's study guide along with some other study material that a reference librarian at my local library helped me find. Passed the exam with no problem. Send me a PM if you want to know what I used.
  20. Thank you caliotter3. That made me feel a lot better about this journey. I am going to take the Excelsior test for the pre req I am missing for the 2 programs I am applying to then have the transcript sent and see what happens. However, I am still going to continue to study for the Excelsior nursing exams as a back up plan just so I do not waste time. Call me CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!
  21. First of all let me apologize if this has been asked before. I have searched allnurses.com but have not been able to find an answer. So here is my question: Does anyone know how Excelsior tests appear on transcripts when you ask Excelsior to send transcripts to a different institution? For example: If I take a pre-req exam, does it appear as a grade such as (A, B, C, D, F or Pass/Fail)? I am considering taking a couple of exams but would like to know how they appear on transcripts before I completely decide to go the Excelsior route for my LPN to RN. If anyone has had Excelsior send transcripts for tests taken how do they appear (With a grade or Pass/Fail)? I have asked the 2 institutions that I am considering applying to their nursing programs how they evaluate transcripts from Excelsior and they have told me to ask Excelsior because they have received transcripts both ways (Transcripts with grades for exams which they applied points to GPA for the grade and then transcripts with Pass/Fail which they just gave credit for but no GPA points. Called Excelsior and they told me to ask the institutions I am wanting my transcripts sent to how they evaluate them. Getting a little frustrated here because no one can give me a straight answer. Thanks in advance.
  22. I'm taking A & P 2 online in Spring 2009 at University of South Florida with the same professor I had Microbiology and Microbiology Lab with this last semester. I got a B for the lecture (Missed an A by 2 points) and an A for the lab. A & P 2 usually contains more physiology is what I have been told by several counselors at different institutions.
  23. i am taking the online microbiology lecture and lab at usf with the same instructor listed in coquito85's reply to my post. (see link below). i am following coquito85's advice and am doing fine. we do not have to go to campus. everything is online. my understanding is that his a & p classes are the same way. i will be taking a & p 2 next term with him. https://allnurses.com/forums/f198/microbiology-human-disease-hillsborough-community-college-summer-2008-a-290003-4.html also, here is a recent post regarding usf's accelerated program. https://allnurses.com/forums/f141/usf-accelerated-program-318142.html hope this helps.
  24. Yes, my old sluggish hippocampus has trouble with FITB too. With the CLEP being multiple choice I found it to be less difficult to remember the material.
  25. Yes, that is what I used along with the REA book to pass the CLEP. In the "Theories of Human Development", the instructor explains the theories so that you can understand them better. That helped me so much. Hopefully, your local library has them or can borrow them for you from another library. Ask your reference librarian.
