Can you please tell me what made you decide to join the Army Reserve Nurse Corp or the Active Nurse Corp?

I have just begun the process of applying for the AR and this article does cause me some concern. For when I was younger, about 15 years ago, I got involved into some legal trouble and I used some drugs. Plus, in order to get through nursing school, I had to let some of my bills go into collection. So, I definitely have many marks against me. Which makes me wonder if it is even worth the trouble of completing the application process.

I know that in Wisconsin I can have my loans canceled over a 5 year period as long as I remain employed as a Registered Nurse full-time.

Well I graduated in December 2008 and passed my boards on March 27, 2009. Then I met with the Army Medical Recruiter on April 8, 2008. So, I called her today and left a message that I would like to schedule a physical and begin the process. I am uncertain if I will be accepted because about 14 years ago I did get into some legal trouble and my credit is horrible. But I am going to apply and be completely honest about everything and see what happens. Plus, if I do like the Army after I complete my 3 year commitment, I just might make a career out of it. Finally, I would like to say thanks to everyone for taking the time to write in the section because you all have truly helped me make a more informed choice.

Yes, it is $50,000 in student loan repayment. Which I think is a fair deal.

I was just informed this past week, from the nurse recruiter, that the Minneapolis VA is not hiring new grads.

Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee pay $23.35 + 10% more for pm shift for a graduate nurse. Then after the passing of NCLEX it goes up from there.

I agree that individuals need to lay off Sue because she is just sharing her experience. AND from how I have seen people treat Sue on this subject from sharing her experience is what does make me rethink about moving to a smaller town. If you are thin skinned when someone makes a comment that may touch a nerve, then please do not reply.:argue:

I do plan on having the contract examined by an attorney because it is good business decision. Also, I am liberal when it comes to my outlook on life and politically and the town that I would be moving to is more conservative. And I have had a difficult time making friends in the larger town that I currently live in because of the way that I view the world. So, I am afraid that I could spend another three years of my life having very few friends in I decide to move. Finally, I am a 42-year old single man and I really do not see a a lot of dating possibilities in a town of 15,000 people because I will not date individuals that I work with in the same facility. I did date women that were in the same college program as me and it was horrible to work with them in clinical after the relationship ended because we were both emotionally raw from the breakup.

My thoughts exactly! I cannot believe that the nurse recruiter was not aware of the $8,000.00 penalty. Plus, since I have discovered the penalty and think about it, I am leaning towards not working there at all.

I know that I have applied for seven jobs in Wisconsin as a new grad and I have had five interviews. So if the nursing shortage is coming to an end it has a long way to go here in Wisconsin.

The reason that they began and still have the residency is because the hospital is in a small town and they have a difficult time getting registered nurses to work there. Also, I did not know that there was an $8,000.00 penalty until I had the interview because the nurse recruiter did not tell me.

Yes, I love the idea. Plus, I have worked 10 hours a day six days a week for 5 months straight so I think that having one week off in between would be great.

I think that if I was to work for one year I could find an ICU job with excellent training with no problem in at least one part of the state. I mean they are offering sign on bonuses for experienced RNs in some parts of the state.
