Funniest Write Up You have Every Recieved?!
I've been wrote up for hugging a long-time friend's grandmother when she bacame a patient. I didn't see any sense in it. Nana would have been crushed if I simply ignored her calling me over for a hug. But then when a family member of another family hit on me sexually and I ran him out off my hall like a wild demon, right under her nose, my boss didn't do anything. THAT'S something I should have been wrote up for, not hugging my friend's grandma.

Need lots and lots of information on motivating patients
hey dude, first of all congrats on admitting your a guy on here. A few guy nurses I know wouldn't have the balls.:monkeydance: But yeah, non-compliant and combative patients. There's not too much difference, but still enough. Non-compliant just means to me (a CNA) that you can't dogpile them to put their clothes on them. I work in a home and believe me we have naked people wandering every night that we have to chase down and wrestle into clothes. And one woman who won't quit hollaring for a man with a big dick to come in and screw her. Things get crazy and we WANT to dogpile them, hold them while we set them in proper clothes, but with people that still have enough of their mind, we can't and it sets off the crazy ones. You just have to sweet-talk them into doing what you want them to do. If you can't get them to do it, try getting the help of someone who knows the patient better, even if they're from the kitchen. We all gotta work together with these kinds of people. :trout: NEVER BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT!!!

What's your favorite type of patient?
I've always liked working with Alzheimer's patients. They're just like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're getting next! :3

Thrifty Facilities?
Ewwwww, that's sick. I would hate to be a patient there.

Thrifty Facilities?
What I wish state would do is send someone to be hired at a facility that seems to have a lot of complaints and let the 'undercover' nurse see if everything is alright. I think it'd be much more effective than everone hollaring down the hall that state's coming, clean up your act.

I'm a little unsure of how to handle this.....
Sounds to me that the daytime charge might have something against you, to be spreading lies like that. Maybe you did something to offend her and she wants you fired? But personally I don't think you should have handled that particular case, considering you knew the family well. It could rattle anyone's judgement. You did the right thing though. If the kiddo was unstable, he surely would have died in transport, even in a Flight For Life copter. Maybe something that could have been done was to call a specialist from a larger hospital to see him, but then again the doctor may have gotten there too late to do anything anyhow. You did what you were trained to do and what felt right. Be proud of that and don't let that other nurse get to you. She's just being mean.

Thrifty Facilities?
At our facility, we have to let our residents sit in piss all night, by our DON's orders. She says the new 'nighttime' diapers are 'extra absorbent'. Absorbent my butt. Every morning on my last round, my partner and I have to change everyone's bed from top to bottom because we weren't allowed to put fresh diapers on these people. If that isn't sad, I don't know what is. We have a full census, too, which is infuriating. And they gripe at us when the patients start to develop sores on their rumps!

Is anyone else uncomfortable with this?
I can see letting a med aid pass pills, maybe even set up nebulizers, but unless they have VERY extensive training if I were a LVN/RN I think I'd uncomfortable with someone else handling the medications for MY patients that I am responible for when I'm on the floor. Books can wait, those people come first.

Agency Nurse doesn't know how to start IVs?
Well, that is certainly...different. Agency nurses shouldn't be that limited. They move around alot, right? Why not train them to do basic things like that before they hit the floor? Then again...In CNA school, they didn't teach us how to do the ADL flow books, soooo...:uhoh21: Maybe the classes are going downward.
