Deaf nurses
Hi there. I was excited to see this post as I was wondering the same thing. I'm not deaf or hh but I teach ASL as a foreign language at a high school. I also want to go back to school for nursing. I've thought about moving to a large deaf community down the road so that I could use my signing and nursing. I wondered if there were deaf nurses out there...espcecially in the deaf communities where they're needed. I strongly believe that the deaf can do anything they put their mind to.....your daughter can be a great nurse if she wants to be or she can be any great thing she dreams. NEVER let people and their opinions or ideas hold you or her back. I think deaf children and their parents need to be exposed to or educated about ever option available (deaf culture, ASL, signing, lip reading, hearing aids, cholclear implants) and when they are old enough to decide what works for them then support their wants and needs. My chances?
I would try to look at schools that look at more than just GPA. I will be applying to Edison College in Fort Myers, FL for the evening program at the end of June. They give points for GPA, number of pre-reqs. completed, ACT composite and ACT reading. My GPA isn't great but I did good on the ACT. I already have a BA and would have loved to do an accelerated program but 1) my 3.0 GPA (from my previous degree) will NEVER let me in a program like that and 2) I have to work full time so I need an evening program. I will go for RN degree now and then just to RN to BSN online after I start working as a nurse. I hope you can find something that will work. I believe you can get into a program with a 3.06 if you will just find the right system........good luck.

Average GPA
As a person who is returning to college after already getting a BA in another area I have realized that what I thought was a good GPA for that is NOT for nursing! :) I had a B average...I had to work 2-3 jobs at a time to get through and I also never had to study in high school and always made A's and B's so I didn't know how to study and figured B's were fine with me for not much effort. I never thought my 3.0 GPA would come back to haunt me but it is. I have decided to go back to school for nursing and all the pre-reqs that are counted are B's so that leaves me with a 3.0 GPA....LUCKILY Edison College in Fort Myers has a point system that counts more than just a person's GPA....I get points for having 5 of the 8 pre-reqs. We also had to take the ACT and I made high enough scores to get all the points for the ACT composite and ACT reading. I'm hoping those points will carry me though for acceptance this summer. I think schools should look at more than just GPA. There are amazing people out there who would make great nurses but they aren't given the chance and then there are people are "book smart" but lack the passion, compassion and real life wisdom to make a good nurse but they get in b/c of grades. I just think there are more to people than their class grade but that's just me.....I might think different if I were a straight A student. :) I will say, reading all these posts has challenged me. I'll be applying at the end of June for the RN evening program and I'll continue to teach full time (I teach sign language at a high school) while I'm in nursing school but I want to achieve higher grades in nursing school so I guess I'm going to have to learn how to study!
