  2. Hi Congratulations and Good Luck. You are starting a journey that will be over before you know it. I graduated the program in August 08. Lots of places to find books cheaper on line and Half Price books. McKinney and Northwest Highway are the best for Nursing Books. I just sold all of the Nursing books that I had left to the Plano store including study guides (Half Price Books) I have three Pair of white scrub pants that I would be willing to give to some one and one pair of black ( yes I know we are not suppose to wear black but some of us got away with black pants third and fourth semester) As far as the tops go it was cheaper just to get them at the embroidery place. I am sure that other graduates would be willing to get rid of the white pants ( at least those not working at Baylor Irving they have to wear white) Private Message me if you are interested in the pants
  3. Yes you will need to register for class but you do not have to worry about the class filling up because only nursing students are allowed in. So you can wait untill later to sign up. The everyone will be taking the same class at the same time except for skills lab.
  4. "need help! does anybody still have their book from pediatrics? i have been using the wrong book! i borrowed the book from the library because i didn't have my financial aid money yet, and it isn't the right book. i have wong's nursing care of infants and children 7th edition and i am supposed to have wong's essentials of pediatric nursing 7th edition. normally i would just buy the book, but i don't think i will get it in time because our test is on monday. (test 1 and test 2 are a week apart ) if anyone can help me please let me know! i would apprecaite it very much! i will either buy it from you, or if you let me borrow it for 2 weeks i will give it back. thanks!!" hi i used the same book that you have when i took pediatrics. i would not worry to much it was the only class that i did not have the correct book in (some classes i did have an older edition) the book that you have has the same information just different pages and chapters. i made an a in the class even with having the wrong book. good luck!!!!
  5. I am in my 40's just graduated from Nursing School, single and have three living children. Two of my children were in NICU. I just started a job in a large level 3 NICU. So I think the life experience that you have will help with getting a job in NICU. For this internship four nurses were hired all new grads two of us in our fourtys and the other two in their twentys. Good Luck.
  6. Congratulations!!!!
  7. Take a deep breath. Make time for yourself even if you do not think you have the time. It helps if you keep your the stress level down. It all can be done and you will be finished before you know it. Good Luck.
  8. Yes I could not get in to take it before I started work and I knew that I could not take it the first two weeks of work. I was told that they would work around me taking it after that so I will schedule it as soon as possible. I will be working at Big Baylor in NICU. I was very happy that is where I wanted to go.
  9. Good luck! Are you the first one in our class to take NCLEX ? You are one busy woman. How is everything going? I will be taking it after I start working in September. Keep in touch and good Luck with everything that is going on. Susan
  10. Sue Watson was wonderful you will really enjoy her. Good luck:nurse:
  11. We did not have to go the day before to pick up patients in OB or Psych. Some of the clinical instructors in Peds made the students go the day before to pick up patients ( I believe it was the clinical the went to Medical City Dallas) I went to Childrens Hospital and it was great we got to do emergency room , OR, NICU, PICU, PICC IV team, and a surgical floor. I went to Richardson for Psych instructor very layed back and nice. The other group got to see more intresting cases so if you are very intrested in Psych go to Green oaks ( the one by Medical City). For OB I went to Parkland great experience saw many babys being born also spent a day in NICU. You can do Peds with out the book.
  12. I used a rolling scrapbooking tote. It was the right size for the books had a lot of places so that I could organize every thing. Had a place for all of my pens , highlighters, ect. It would also hold my lap top for when I needed to take it to class. I bought mine at MJ designs and with a coupon it was much cheeper than the rolling back packs at the store. I just now finished School and it held up very well Good luck
  13. Thank you so much.I think we are all a jumble of emotions right now one minute I am fine and the next I am freaked out. I am fine right now and will hopefully stay that way until after the test. It is only a test and I have to keep telling my self that. Good luck to everyone that is going to take the HESI tomorrow and we will all do great.
  14. I was on financial aid. I did not buy the book pack. I would buy used books and sometimes not the same addition but it always had the same material only on different pages. I did not use a book for pediatrics. ( I was mostly A with a few B student during NS) I would buy books off the internet and even at Half Price Book store the one in McKinney and the one on North West Highway are the best for Nursing Books. You do have to buy the supply pack from the Book store you will need on the first semester and one the second and that is all. Good luck and it will be over before you know it. I also bought my stethoscope on e-bay.
  15. We were able to sign up for our support courses, and nursing foundations, but thats it until success camp which is a week before school starts. I have 3 kids which start school the same day I do, and really need more than the Friday before school starts to get my schedule set. In the course schedule book it shows clinicals Monday for 12 hours. Is that the only choice we have or do they offer clinicals on other days, or the option to split it up during the week into 6 hours shifts? You do Clinical in 12 hour shifts. During complex Med/surg and OB/Peds sometimes you can do Clinical on the weekend that helped me out a lot with having children at home it was easier to have some one help me out with them. How many sets of scrubs, and labcoat did you order for the first semester? One labcoat and three sets of scrubs that way during the semesters that we had clinicls three days in a row I did not have to do laundry. ( as the time wore on sometimes we did not wear white pants we would wear black pants. we never had a clinical instuctor say anything) What brand of nursing shoes did you buy, and where did you buy them? Do the local hospitals that we do clinicals at restrict what shoes you can wear? I went to the outlet in Allen and bought a pair of white nursing shoes, more important was the support knee hi socks that I bought the ones that the outlet store in Allen are the best and not the hose type but the sock type. What hospitals do we do our clincals at, and do you get a choice? This can change but we did clinicls at Big Baylor, Baylor Garland , Baylor Plano, Baylor Irving, HCA Medical Center Plano, Medical Center Dallas, Parkland (OB), Childrens Dallas (PEDS the best) Our Childrend House and Scottish rite (Peds) Any help would be great as I am an anal planner and can't stand waiting until the last minute to get everything sorted out. Sorry to say you have to be very flexable they change dates and locations and will let you know stuff at the last MIN. But it is worth all of it in the end. I would start planing now for home life, stock up on Paper plates and cups you will not always want to do the dishes and anything that will make things easyer with the kids. I do not know how old they are but stocking up with poster boards and stuff for projects right now is good because my kids let me know sometimes the night before something is due and if I had other comitments with school I would not be able to get those things so having them on hand was great. Good Luck. Do not forget to take time out for your self.
  16. I am in Fourth semester getting ready for HESI and our pinning. I went to Parkland for OB and loved my Clinical instructor, and for Peds I went to Children's with Ms. Wilson that was a great experience and she was a wonderful Clinical instructor. Good luck to every one it will be over before you know it.
  17. Depends upon the semester. Sorry. My first semester was Monday - Thursday, Second semester Monday - Thursday. Third semester Two days for lecture and two days for clinical.( my clinical was on the weekend). Fourth semester two days for lecture and two for clinical ( my clinical was on the weekend). First and second semester have labs, and you will need to go to lab and practice on your own time. This is for nursing classes only if you have any support classes left more time in lecture. Lots of time studying.
  18. Our classes were scheduled differently than yours what classes will you be taking? OB and Peds and Pych is that right?
  19. See next one down. Sorry
  20. End of life has several papers to write but is not a hard class. Patho is a very important class as far as nursing is concerned. If you know your patho you will do well in Nursing school. I am not sure that you will have enough time to study during May mester if you take both classes. But that is because I spent quite a bit of time studying for Patho I took it in the summer.
  21. Congratulations to everyone that will be starting in the fall. Also congratulations to all that have just about finished first semester.
  22. Congratulations! Even though the program is hard it is the best decision that I have ever made. Nursing is where I belong. Never any regrets.
  23. I have the Littman Master Classic II( I really like it) . I have tried the Cardiology not sure which one but it was very clear and easy to hear every sound. It was much more expensive. You can go to like Majors and they will let you try out the different stethoscopes in the store.
  24. You do not need a BP monitor. It is up to you what kind of stethoscope you would like. I have a littman Master Classic II and really like it. But you do not have to get one that expensive. I bought mine off of e-bay so it was much cheaper. White Scrubs but the top needs to be embroidered with the school logo and your name so it is cheaper to just buy the top at the place that does the embroidery, pants you can get any where. I buy most of my books on line or Half Price books. It is very expensive but you can get around many of the cost.
