  1. Call the HR contact listed under the Nurse Clinician positions at UW. There are many jobs at UW hospital and they still have a shortage. However, the only thing that gets complicated is when you are not a new grad (and thus not eligible for residency program), and if you don't have one year of nursing experience ( and thus not eligible for regular nurse clinician jobs). Regardless, I have found the nurse recruiters extremely helpful. I am sure there is a job for you. But you are right, there isn't a shortage at other area hospitals. In fact, the job market is extremely competitive. But, the hospitals all have great reputations and the pay is much higher than other WI markets. Good LUck.
  2. Ever thought about Edgewood? I actually went to UW madison for my first degree, and ending up getting my BSN from Edgewood last year. I loved the program and the teachers. The big down side is the cost, which I covered with loans. Good Luck! The way I see it is that you should go and make the best out of whatever school you go to. I have heard from a lot of nurses that went to all the schools you are considering, and they had good and bad things to say about all of them. GOOD LUCK!
  3. I loved the online class. The regular in person classes conflicted with my work schedule... so I gave it a go. Most of my peers did the actual in person one, and told me that there isn't much content review and that one of the instructors really "cut corners" and didn't utilize the strategies when going over example questions for the class. When I did the online class, I loved how the content review and question review was taught by the directors of curriculum (basically the people who wrote the book). I was really intimidated by how much content I had needed to go over in the beginning, but the online classes made it much more manageable. I also thought the way it was presented was very concise. It made it easy to pick and choose areas I wanted to focus on. As long as you have initiative to dedicate to the Kaplan online course, I cannot say enough good things. Oh, and I JUST found out I passed, and I feel that the course was one of the major reasons why! GOOD LUCK!
  4. You know- the funny thing about this exam is that sometimes no matter how well prepared you are, the specific test YOU got may have been the worst possible combination of questions for YOU. I was just speaking with the veteran nurses on my floor and they said that there are numerous nurses on the unit who didn't pass the NCLEX (some of them multiple times). AND, they stressed that these nurses are some of the absolute best RN's they have on the floor. The great thing about this forum is that everyone here understands how HARD the Nclex exam is. It is difficult for those outside of nursing to completely understand that, no matter how supportive they are. Hang in there. You can do it!
  5. In the same boat as you. Took mine yesterday (8th). The waiting has been undoubtedly the worst part about all of this. I cannot even imagine waiting until Monday, but I am preparing myself for that. I have had several friends say that it took 3-4 BUSINESS days to get their results..... so, I am not counting on getting the result:stone  Hang in there and let us know! Hoping for the best!!!!
  6. So, are you in the same boat as me???? Still waiting. Gosh, this is miserable....
  7. Thanks for the responses and the support. Still sweating it in my 36th hour. I got 75 questions. Thought I rocked the first part and then kinda fell apart at the end. I really bought into all the rumors I had heard about successful candidates only having priority questions at the very end. That didn't seem to be the case at the end. Seriously, I think that the less a person knows about the NCLEX format, the better. At least I wish I hadn't done so much research (some reliable, some not) My head is a mess, and I only remember the ones I know I got wrong. Something else that has me a little on edge is that there are a total of five graduate nurses new on my unit, including me. They have never had all of the new orientees pass on the first try... As of this week, the other 4 passed, yikes... that leaves me. Hopefully I am the exception! THANKS FOR LETTING ME VENT!
  8. Scaredandalone, Hopefully it offers you some comfort to know that you aren't alone. I am normally a pretty confident person, but in the last 36 hours I barely recognize the person I am as I wait for the results. I shift from being okay, to being a total pile of crap. My husband has heard "SORRY" so many times since the test that he wants to cry. I hope that your anxiety is relieved in the near future, as well as mine. Although I don't feel qualified to offer you any words of wisdom or false validation, I can tell you that you aren't alone and that we will get through this.... although it certainly does not feel that way. Take care....
  9. Hi there! Just took NCLEX yesterday (Thursday) and wondering if I am going to be able to get my results tomorrow morning, since it is a Saturday. I am asking this because of course, I don't know if I can wait till Monday to find out!!!!! Hoping some of you could lend me your expertise. Plus, I needed to do something constructive while waiting. This is out of control!
