  1. what is an okay GPA to put on your resume?

Hi rroo, I would leave it out. As you said, it's not very competitive; but also, you are already giving them your GPA from your major nursing courses from your BSN. In the working world, it's not recommended to put it in anymore anyways. There are ...
  2. Hi all, I'm looking for information about how CEUs have been included in total compensation packages. We all know that they are necessary to maintain our respective certifications. I'd like to hear what everyone is getting from their employers, rega...
  3. Are there any Emory University students here? I'll be starting the WHNP program in the fall and am looking to get in touch with other soon-to-be or current students. :typing Anyone also going into the WHNP program? :grad: Where are others who are rel...
  4. Yes, it's definitely possible to get a job in women's health as an FNP. In fact, some people would encourage you to go the FNP route instead of WHNP to broaden your horizons. I don't know where I stand on that topic yet, but I can tell you that I dec...
  5. I'm not an FNP (I'm a WHNP) but I figured I'd weigh in anyways... :-) I think the simple answer to your question is: no. The more complicated answer is: it would depend on the jobs you apply to once you graduate and are ready to work as an FNP. If y...
  6. WHNP Jobs - DC, MD, Northern VA

Hi everyone! I posted this in the Advanced Practice section but wanted to also put it here as it may help the responses. I'm reaching out looking for any advice or leads on jobs in the northern VA, MD, or DC areas. My husband and I are relocating to ...
  7. Financial Aid Letter - Vanderbilt

Oh, well either way, good luck! I know the waiting process is excruciating and seems to pass very sloooooowly. :-) Think positively!
  8. Financial Aid Letter - Vanderbilt

I didn't attend Vanderbilt however, I would think it's safe to assume that the Financial Aid office wouldn't bother processing and evaluating your packet if you hadn't been accepted. That's just my Congrats!
  9. NP vs. PA

Just so you know, there are one-year Adult NP programs out there at very respectable universities. They are INTENSE and expensive, but worth it if you are concerned with years spent in school, out of work, or working part-time. Personally, I'm votin...
  10. I agree with Katherined. I remember, very clearly, being taught that pain is SUBJECTIVE. It is what a person says it is, for them, which is why we have multiple pain scales. Yes, there are objective s/s to measure, chart and follow BUT it is still su...
  11. Need to Connect with NPs

If you are a member of a professional organization, at times they have advertisements of nurse practitioner news (local, national meetings in various locations) in their publications. I would try LinkedIn.com to reach out to those in your area. Maybe...
  12. Emory University - Atlanta

Hi everyone! Since I didn't get much of a response (or any!) from my last post regarding Emory University, I thought I'd go a different route. Is anyone currently attending Emory U's MSN program, Women's Health option or another, that has any valuabl...
  13. what is an okay GPA to put on your resume?

I've been told by professional resume advisers to include your GPA if it's 3.50 or above. That is, if you want to include it on your resume. I don't think it being left off your resume will make or break your chances of an interview.
  14. Looking for advice from VA/MD/DC NPs

Hi all! I'm looking for advice regarding NP practice in the Virginia, Maryland, and DC areas. I am a WHNP looking for work and considering the area as my husband has a job offer there. I'm wondering what your opinions are of the separate areas in te...
  15. Looking for advice from VA/MD/DC NPs

Thank you for the reply. :) It was very helpful. We're aware that the cost of living in and around the DC area is high, so we're trying to find the best areas that would suit our needs. Thankfully, my husband's job should not be based out of DC so th...
  16. Looking for advice from VA/MD/DC NPs

Also, if anyone knows of any WHNP job leads or contacts in the area, I'd be glad to hear them!
  17. take exam tomorrow

Good Luck!!! Let us know how it goes! I'll get your celebration started *wine.
  18. Are there many WHNP jobs out there?

Another point to keep in mind is the ability to get a post-masters certificate in another specialty (FNP, ANP) if you want to broaden your options. Now, having said that... Do I think someone is going to spend 1-2+ years on their masters degree and g...
  19. Are there many WHNP jobs out there?

I'm a WHNP (currently looking for work) and can tell you that there ARE jobs out there. People may tell you to do ANP or FNP just to give you more options which isn't bad advice, however I knew I wanted to devote my career to caring for women and gir...
  20. help need advice on exam and soon

I haven't taken the PNP exam, however I have taken the NCC WHNP exam and can tell you that you're probably not getting the feedback you're seeking because we're not allowed to give out test information. In fact, when you go, you'll likely have to (el...
  21. job offer

I don't have much in the way of seasoned advice, but I wanted to say GOOD LUCK! I hope everything works out for you. I'll be in your same boat very shortly as I'm beginning the process of finding a WHNP job soon! Well wishes sent your way!
  22. What does an NP do when they move

I would also like to hear the replies to this thread. I am a WHNP graduate who is preparing to take boards next month. I am unsure of which state to become licensed in as my husband and I are living overseas until March/April when my husband's commit...
  23. A day in the life of an nurse in a Doctor office

I work for the Army in a "doctor's office" (we call it an ambulatory clinic, anywho...) as an RN and I can tell you that this role is multifaceted. Here, I triage (in person or on the phone) patients who are unable to get appts with our MDs/PA and of...
  24. Any students attending Emory University this fall?

hrabell, I'll be relocating from Germany to go to school. I've been living here for the last two years while my husband serves in the Army. I hope to get a job once I've settled into school. I've looked online but it's hard to arrange that and get a...
  25. Any students attending Emory University this fall?

I did receive some scholarship and grant awards, however it is not enough to cover the entire cost of attendance. I'll be taking out federal loans and paying the rest as I go. I'd like to find a PT job once I've settled into the rhythm of school life...
