  1. I agree with the other answers you have received. I took the exam about a year ago and was so freaked out I showed up to take the exam on the wrong day and almost got tested for English fluency!! Good Luck!!
  2. I need some info please. As an OR RN I don't know much about what goes on before the patient crashes into the OR trauma room, but I need some info for a paper I am writing. When a pediatric trauma patient comes into the ER, who bears the responsibility for communication with the parents and keeping them informed? When it is obvious that the patient will not survive, what resources do you have available to help deal with parents/families? Thank you in advance!
  3. I am 54; and several years ago was lucky enough to find a job in an Ambulatory Surgery Center. The work is hard and fast (time is money, lol) but it is 07:00-15:30, Mon-Fri with no call!! However I did take a slight paycut to have these "real hours". Before that I worked in a large 24/7, 33 room OR suite. We did not take call, but did have to work different shifts/week-ends, holidays. Is your hospital the only one in town or are there other options? I have also started online classes for my BSN as I know that is the only way I can advance to any less physically challenging role.
  4. That's hilarious! Thanks for the laugh; it was much needed!
  5. I started out as a Surg. Tech. so scrubbing will always be my first love. However, as I have gotten older it is more difficult to stand in one spot for long periods of time. Also, some of the positions you have to contort your body into for those "here, hold this retractor" occassions really hurts!!
  6. I would suggest that if time permits, you call the OR and ask if there is anyone that could give you some tips on rules and regs. and maybe a brief tour before you show up to observe. As for the perfume mentioned in another post, please don't wear it to work!! So many people, patients and staff are allergic/sensitive; it's better saved for your personal special occassions!
  7. Don't beat yourself up over it. I have worked in the OR for many years and it happens to the best of us; for a multitude of reasons.
  8. I need your help please---I am an OR Nurse returning to school after many years. I need your expertise in how to differentiate epigastric pain from MI. I thought ER Nurses would be the best source! Not very good with these patient assessments----more used to just cutting them open and fixing them up after someone else diagnosed them! Thanks!
