I have tried contacting HR in several hospitals and no one wants to give out information over the phone. I have neither the time nor the money to travel to various hospitals putting in applications just to gain data for a class project. That is why I have asked for help from the many great nurses at this website. It would only take 1-2 minutes to type a response that indicates what a person's hospital is doing and the information is still anonymous. Please help.
  2. Does any soap work or do you need a certain kind of soap? I have struggled for years with RLS and now that I am working, it has gotten worse.
  3. I find it amazing that over 1200 people have looked at this thread and only 35 have posted. What is the big secret:innerconf ?
  4. We get 7% diff for 3p-11p, 10% for 11p-7a, no weekend diff
  5. Thanks for the info! I am surprised that those two hospitals are aligning/merging. Which hospital will be the lead one? I know that whenever I have checked the online job opportunities for these hospitals, Kingston had many and Benedictine had few. I always thought that said alot for which hospital people were more satisfied working for. I wonder how this joining will affect job satisfaction.

I am in desparate need for information on shift differentials, weekend differentials, and weekend options being offerred in Kentucky. I need this information for a class project in my BSN leadership class. If anyone is willing to share this info it would greatly help. I do not need to know where you work. I do need about one hundred replies for this project to be valid. The information will also count from any of the surrounding states, so if you know someone with info, please help. Thank you.
  7. Hello nurse sarah, I don't live in Madisonville, but I work there at RMC. I do not know much about travel nurxing. I have heard it is great and that it sucks, take your pick. I guess it depends on what the person was expecting when they started traveling verses what they got. Make a list of what you want and write down how you think things will be, then call different travel companies and find out what you can get and match things up. If any agree to terms they did not first establish, get it in writing before you start. Good luck.
  8. I work in Madisonville, KY and new grad pay is $17.38/hr with 7% pm diff and 10% noc diff. No weekend diff.
  9. Five people in my class had all 265 questions and four of them passed.
  10. I am planning to move to Upstate NY in the next year. I will be living about one hr from Kingston. Does anyone know what the hospitals in Kingston are paying? I have experience in ED and ICU and I hope to have my TNCC, CEN, and CCRN completed before I go.

Actually, I am not interested in the money. I have chosen where I work because the atmosphere is right. I could earn more money and work 1 mile from home (I drive 40 miles to work) but the people there are very unhappy and I do not wish to work in that environment. You cannot have that many unhappy people in one place unless you have bad management. My primary reason for gathering this information is to complete a project I am doing for my BSN Leadership class. I also expect to be moving in the next couple of years and want to get an idea of what is available. If I happen to be able to find a pleasant environment and good pay, well, I would not object.
  12. How does your hospital compensate for different shifts and weekends? Does your hospital use percentages or a dollar amount? What are these amounts? Does you hospital have a weekend option plan? If so what are the details of the plan at your hospital? I am working on a project for my leadership class in the BSN program and I need to compile as much information as I can get. It would also be helpful if you could indicate what state you are in. Thank You!
  13. I graduated in May 2006 at the ripe old age of 50.
  14. I graduated form there in May 2006. the program is hard but it is well worth it. After talking to many students from the Madisonville program, I think the HCC one is best. Our class was one of the largest classes to graduate (61 students) and I only heard of 3 not passing the NCLEX. For the first year, I would recommend Ms. Wacks. She is thorough and compassionate. The second year depends on what you want in your instructor: Ms. Barlow is laid back, Ms. Bozarth is task oriented, Ms. Askew is a little flighty, laid back, and compassionate and that is all I can say about them. I will tell you this, in the second semester I was in Ms. Pniewski's group, she is great but maybe too laid back for the uninformed, and we went to Greenview Medical Center in Bowling Green. There were alot of WKU 4th year students there and they pretty much held the walls up with their fingers up their noses because they were too scared/or too lazy to do anything. all the nurses had glowing compliments for the HCC students in comparison to the WKU students. We knew more and our level of functioning far surpassed them. Madisonville's NCLEX success rate is not as high as HCC and many of their students felt they were not given the tools they needed to enter the nursing field.

How does their weekend option plan work? I have seen many variations of the "Baylor Plan". What are the details of the plan they use at OMHS?

I live western KY in Hopkinsville and I work in Madisonville. I beleieve Greenview Medical Center in Bowling Green has the weekend option. They are part of HCA which includes Centennial and Skyline to name a few.
  17. I have a question for all of you who work weekend options by whatever name is used. Have you found difficulties with the regular full-time staff regarding the differences in pay or when, on occasion, they have had to cover the weekend for the optioner to get their scheduled 2 weekends off?
  18. I am a new nurse (ADN) as of May 2006. I currently work in the Emergency Department. I am also taking classes for my BSN. I am researching hospitals that utilize weekend options, Baylor plans, and weekend shift differentials. I am especially interested in if any hospitals have found moral problems with their regular full time nurses when, on occasion, they have to work the weekend to cover the time off accrued by the weekenders. I am also interested in what kind of weekend differentials are being used to offset weekend shortages. If anyone has any information, I will be glad to hear from you, that is, if I can figure out how to get responses. The computer world of emails and other communications is just as new to me as nursing is. As I said before, I am a new nurse. What I didn't say before is that I am over the age of fifty and teaching an old dog new tricks is not easy. Please be gentle.
