Sounds like a crappy day! hope tomorrow will be better. As far as the computer charting does, it takes some getting used to, but it does make it easier once you get practice with it. Good luck!

Target has good looking suits...very inexpensive. No one will think less if the suit is not great quality as long as it is appropriate. Black, dark grey, or navy. Fit is more important than whether or not it is designer. Also, you don't HAVE to wear a suit. If it fits well and is well pressed you can wear nice slacks (dress slacks, not dockers) and a button down shirt with a tie (I would suggest a solid white shirt with a traditional tie...no crazy designs). You can add a sport coat if you have one. Also....get a good haircut and a clean shave. Oh, and shine your shoes. WHAT EVER YOU DO, DON"T BE WRINKLED!!! But don't stress. Most interviewers know that you are broke coming out of nursing school.

I think it is all about your attitude. If you go into a patient's room like you know what you are doing, and that it is totally professional...you should be okay. There are always going to be a few female patients that prefer a female, but the majority will be okay with it. (keep in mind that the patients are already hesitant to let a student do anything to them and being a male will only make it worse.) But if you maintain a very professional attitude it will take you a lot farther. Most of the post partum patients are so used to having nurses, doctors, and students in and out of their rooms looking at their private areas that they soon won't care what gender you are. I just want patients to know that sometimes we come in and ask you to do funny things...squeeze my fingers, lift your leg, look this way, that way, whatever. Just know that this is part of our assessment. We know nothing is wrong with your legs, but it is part of your neuro assessment, or whatever. Please just follow the instructions. Don't say...."I came in with diabetes...do you even know what you are doing?? Nothing is wrong with my eyes, legs, head, etc." Oh...and I know that it is funny putting a number to your pain. but you still have to give me a number. You can also explain that "well, its not really a number, it is just bothering me a little when I move" That is good to know and I will keep that in mind....but I still need a number to put into the computer. Thank you!

I have dansko clogs, love them! I have secondary question to add to this forum....does anyone wear compression socks? I like the knee high compression socks to keep my legs from getting tired but i hate how synthetic they are (no cotton at all) This causes a problem with foot odor and I am wondering if anyone else has this issue (and is brave enough to admit it)

It is important to know that if you get sued, the hospital is suposed to cover you. BUt....in some states the hospital is allowed to then turn around and file a suit against you, in other states they are not allowed to do this. Also, I hear that if people find out that you carry insurance than they are more likely to file a suit against you because they can actually get $ from it. I am sure this is not true, but something to consider. Another thing to think about is what your specialty is. Labor and Delivery has a longer statute of limitations and a much higher rate of being sued. OR is another job where you are more likely to be sued....from what I hear

i am glad there are other women with the same problem as me! I am a new nurse and am having a hard time buying scrubs that fit. It seems like the only scrubs with a long inseam are mens or unisex scrubs (and are huge on me). I just want to be able to wear pants that fit! I wear a medium landau pant, but they are about 3" too short. They only have certain styles that some in long. So...I made my own. I bought a pattern from the cloth store and added length to the pants. The best part is that I added as many pockets as I wanted.
