  1. No RN in the building.... wow where I work we have an RN in the builing at all times. Day shift on my side we have 1 charge, 1 treatment nurse and 3 nurses, on evenings we have 1 charge and 3 nurses at night it is 2 nurses. The average is 1 nurse to 25 residents. Our facility requires an RN must be in the building at all times. There is no way to warn the next poor nurse but hopefully things will change. Good Luck
  2. I am just curious how do some of you cope with a loss of a patient? Do you ever get immuned to it? At the long term facility I work in we have just started a celebration of life committee, in which we are celebrating a life. We are just starting and so far it is very slow catching on. There is a memorial service that covers a 4 month span where families are invited (this is nice to check in with families who we have not seen since their loved one has passed) But what else? Any ideas or suggestions. My personal way to cope is volunteering my time with that pt, bathing and massages. Just offering my time to them. I find comfort in knowing that for my time spent I made that person comfortable.
  3. okay I read and now I am going to respond. I have only performed CPR twice as a nurse (neither survived) and as a volunteer EMT 12 with only 1 surviving initial crisis died a week later. It does come to you. I remember the very first arrest I had and the adrenaline. Of course my 1st had to be a liver transplant recepient not to far in the post op phas;e with a lot of staples. As I started compressions I felt bones popping it was the most nauseating thing ever of course that was as an EMT. On the scene just remember this is not your emergency and focus on what we are always taught ABC's. You can see my ratio 0:14 but I know that my effort gave a greater chance than not doing anything.
  4. I have taken care of a resident that would go below the range on glucometer which is below 20 on ours. He is talking making perfect sense. The only reason we check his fingerstick is it is ordered before each meal and at bedtime. Sandy
