  1. The above statement is partially incorrect. I had all my credits transfer, including nutrition, statistics, and ethics from a previous Bachelor's degree, although it was in child development, so I am not sure if it's different for a BSN...
  2. A lot of OB nursing is social and educational. Do you like teaching people? Do feel passionate about breastfeeding? Are you willing to not be practicing med/surg skills? How do you feel about dealing with parents who clearly should not be parents, or families that show little interest in learning? All of these issues come up in OB nursing. It is a great field, full of wonderful experiences, but it is psychologically and emotionally intensive. And when it goes bad, it tends to go in a in a big bad way...You are dealing with a basically healthy population, but now there are increasing numbers of comorbidities interplaying with the complications of birth and recovery. Make sure you want this type of job description. Good luck!
  3. Turned in an application to Maui memorial a couple weeks ago. Anybody have any experience, tips, or news about the hiring process there? ARE they hiring? HR said all posted positions are currently being recruited for, but it seems ppl are still talking like there is a hiring freeze. And some of the postings have been there for months! Are they super picky? I have spent many summers in hawaii as a kid, heve relatives living on the other islands, and I get all the uber-expense, etc. Just really trying to get a job. Would consider medical office, too. Have 3+ yrs RN experience- 2 as postpartum and nursery, and one year Med/oncology. I also still work on call for the med floor. Also have 50+ yrs of life-experience! Thanks.
  4. Hi Jennie, I would love to have you share a room with me. I am staying at Treasure Island though, across the street from the Venetian, as it saved a little cash. Apparently, I can't instant message you on this site, as I don't have enough posts yet. If you still want to room with me, let me know via this post and maybe the administrator can connect us privately. Thanks, Debi
  5. Yes, yes ,yes it will be worth the cost and time to go. They have a vendors area, and I'm sure there will be employer scouts there too. I'm planning on taking multiple copies of my resume to pass out. I'm looking to do alot of networking, too. It was more to stay at the Venetian than I was willing to pay, so I booked across the street at Treasure Island for about half the price. A little bit inconvenient, but totally manageable. So, yes, I am still looking for a roomie. I arrive on Sunday noonish and leave after the convention on thurs. I'm not sure how to actually connect with you without putting personal stuff on here- any ideas? I'm in Spokane,WA, work in the OB dept and love it! Let me know what you think. Thanks for the reply.
  6. I am hoping to find someone to share the room at the Venitian for the Awhonn convention in Sept. I won't be there the 25, which is a "pre-convention" day, but will be there sun through wed nights. Noone else from my hospital is going, and I'd like to share the fun with another RN! Thanks! (oops- end of long night- *convention*)
