  3. PSYCH K is a way of building a strong positive belief system to help people reach their goals. It's different than positive thinking and affirmations which require constant reinforcement. With Psych K you learn in a workshop how to create a belief system to help you reach your goals- in this case- pass NCLEX. ( Most people I talk to don't really believe that they will pass- they keep telling themselves over and overhow hard NCLEX is and that they are going to fail ...and then they do.). The belief system comes before anything.
  4. Read your books.Find a quiet place to do it. Forget about dinners on time and wash. Forget about baking for the kids and cleaning the house.Learn all the meds and side effects you can. Submitt to some nursing journals to start thinking like a nurse. Get used to a few hours of sleep and be ready for everyone you know to get pissed off because they have not heard from you. Sleep now, you will not do much in school. You will see meds marching across your eyes, you will swear a care plan was invented by the devil himself. Get ready to gain weight, snacking on the run and while studying is a biggie! But, in the end you will make it. Buy some good nclex books they will help you with your studies and at the same time, prepare for the nclex.
  5. After reading this thread, doing a little bit of research and then observing two CABG surgeries using the bypass machine, I wondered about JWs and consent. Do you think JW patients (or, for those of you who are JW, would you) consent to a procedure that involved a bypass machine? I am aware that some believe that an autologous transfusion is acceptable, whereas others believe that as soon as the blood leaves the body, it is impure. I was quite curious about this and I figured this would be the best place to get some good answers. Thanks!
  6. I would like to point out too there are many medical choices patients make that could extend their stay or make use of alternitive therapies. Guess what drs are not always right, its up to the patient for whatever reason to be their own advocate and if they are not comfortable with a procedure or choice a dr makes they have the right to try others. In the instances of Jehovahs witnesses you might want to sit back and think of how their choices have changed the shape of medicine, new technologies are comming out all the time and most are prompted my Jw's however will benifit the whole community, bloodless medicine is becomming more and more popular whole hospitals are becomming dedicated to this, it is by far a safer way to go and coming up with non blood products was infact spear headed if not directly but indirectly by Jehovah's witnesses. In my opinion that is tax dollars well spent.
  7. I am pursuing my BSN. As part of my current class I am researching the difficulties of caring for patients with the Jehovah's witness' beliefs. If anyone has an experience that he/she can share with me about your personal feelings in caring for a Jehovah's witness, I would greatly appreciate it. I am new to the discussion board and look forward to hearing from you.
  8. Meg, Thanks so much for being so open and forthcoming with information about your belief's as a Jehovah's Witness. Thank you for the website address and phone number that you provided. I am sure that this info. will be of great benefit to me as I continue my research. I am a great advocate of protecting patient rights and respecting a patients wishes. I am sure that I will learn quite a lot in researching this topic. I appreciate your help.
