  1. Loved your message. I am near the same age bracket and agree!! Looking forward to visiting your country one day soon....I have a wellness business that will allow me to retire sooner than anticipated and it will also allow me the luxury of doing some travel....that I only dreamed of before. Can't wait!! AND... a chance I will be a tax write off as well...if I do some business there...which I no doubt will...since my wellness biz can be done any where and is fun..not work. Do you know anyone who could use extra cash helping people...in their own time? To your health, Mary Ann Bernard Health and Wellness Coach
  2. Hi, That is a common problem...long term LPN's end up starting at a lower RN rate which is pretty close to their LPN wage. I actually have a friend who decided to join me in my business and forget the RN school stress since she can make more...have insurance and many other benefits plus work when she wants. This by the way is a great job for someone who eventually may not be able to handle the regular work environment d/t the neuropathies. To your health, Mary Ann Health and Wellness Coach
  3. Hi there. I use to say "I have been in healthcare for thirty two many yeas".....but not it is about 36. Let me be sure I understand... You are no longer able to fulfill your duties as a nurse working on your feet 8-12 hours a day (or more) right? Due to pain? (and/or other health concerns)?? BUT you are still interested in helping others and of course supporting your self, right? I have a great job that counteracts all the stress of the regular FT day job and will allow me to give up the day job much sooner than planned..and it has an option for insurance too! Looking forward to that day and I know it is close! I have been doing it for several years very part time but is is something that can be done FT as well. Mary Ann
  4. Over kill is not always the answer. For many reasons Pts do not understand why we wears masks when just entering the room if bug is in urine and they have a catheter... and there is nothing that shows it decreases the risk of spreading. Poor handwashing on the other hand... now there is documentation of that impacting the spread of many things. But when something runs the risk of being spread via an airborne route, a maks is alwasy a very good idea. I suggest you look at the http://www.APIC.org website. (assoc. for Infection Control Practioners). They have very good educational things available and an IC list serve as well. Good luck.
  5. Carolyn T, Is the MRSA an active infection or colonized? There are people everywhere you go with MRSA these days. They do not stay home confined to a room. They live their lives. BUT as usual the key is in good handwashing!! Too bad nurses and DOCS in general do not comprehend that. Curious to hear how it has gone for you so far.
