  1. I'm still at my first nursing job 6 years later, although my position has changed. Just the thought of it sounds heartwrenching. If that day ever comes, it'll be very hard for me to handle!
  2. The wait to find out if I'd been accepted into nursing school was harder than waiting on board results. You are completely normal and everybody I've known experiences all the same doubts and fears. If it is meant to be, you will get it. :)
  3. Nursing school had me pulling my hair out, stressed out to the maxiumum and almost calling it quits. However, my career thus far as a nurse has been all "I dreamed about." It is an amazingly rewarding and exciting career. I haven't once regretted my decision since my graduation 6 years ago and whenever I do, I pray to God that I have the strength to take a break.
  4. I think you are misunderstanding me. I'm not asking who views it as volunteer work. I am asking whether or not money is the motivator for choosing a nursing career.
  5. It's absolutely unethical. The money should have been returned immediately. I like the idea of suggesting a donation to the March of Dimes.
  6. Do you think money motivates everybody to go to work?
  7. PS.. my daughters were born on January 20th and final semester bagan 3 days later so I didn't miss a day of school. I was fortunate in that way.
  8. I got pregnant during nursing school and I thought it wouldn't be a problem but I was wrong. It was extremely difficult and It made things 10x harder than they would have been without being pregnant but as someone else said, life continues, even during nursing school and things happen. I survived. I wouldn't recommend trying to become pregnant but if it happens, it's just a curve ball and you can make it. :)
  9. It's their pain, their meds and their call. If it is a PRN med and it is time for them to request it and they do, then it is time to administer it. I'm a nurse in acute care. I'm not a doctor who has ordered it, a specialist in addiction nor a police officer. It's not my job to decide how much pain they are truly having. Patients have rights and one of them is to be given their medication as ordered and if PRN, as requested in a timely manner.
  10. Is nursing just a money-making job for you? What contribution do you make to nursing? Why did you want to become a nurse and what continues to motivate you to show up to work each day?
