  1. Got one for you guy's. I worked at a doctor's office in W. V. doing phone triage A lady called and stated " My child has been poisoned" OH MY GOD!!!!!!" I was asking all about the " poison" like what did he ingest and how much? The lady laughed and said that he got the " poison by playing in the field" Okay you know now it is poison ivy.
  2. patient advocacy is a vital role of nursing, but it is often hidden from the public eye. patient advocacy means standing up on behalf of our vulnerable patients, and this is not an easy role. we must often stick our necks out and step on toes. the patient must always be front and center to everything we do in nursing. we must continuously strive to ensure the highest quality of care, safety, and that the patient's holistic needs are being met. i think patient advocacy is best captured by this immortal quote from virginia henderson (1968), "the nurse is temporarily the consciousness of the unconscious, the love of life for the suicidal, the leg of the amputee, the eyes of the newly blind, a means of locomotion for the infant, knowledge and confidence for the young mother, a 'mouthpiece' for those too weak or withdrawn to speak."
  3. Computer charting is the biggest change in nursing. If I had known I would attepted to be more computer knowledgeable in school. Also the amount of paper work is OUTRAGIOUS :roll
  4. Just to let you know I do smoke but because the new facility I work for is non smoking I don't smoke during my shifts. However I will also tell you that I have become a nervous weak since cutting down on smoking. So I too am doing it the old fashioned way but it is way hard man.
  5. Like I said hang on ! Love can go through anything!
  6. More damage without a doubt ! My husband and I have gone through He%^ ( I don't need to tell you the details-just know that I could write a book). We have stuck through everything together! This might be a old fashioned idea but going through the worst and finding yourselves still together is what marriage is all about. We have been married for 17 years and during that time I have gone through two nursing programs ( LPN then RN) with my husband cheering me on the whole way ( no other person did) Hang in there! Just say this too will pass and it will ! Stay together and stay stong against the turning tide. Romance is in the embers of time no matter what you go through !
  7. I notice there are no stressed nurses running down the hall with the stethascopes just a banging! Hey I'll wear the french maid uniform if it means low stress and low patient ratio
  8. Just to let you know that I too have felt like leaving nursing many times, but this has always been my dream ( since 2 nd grade). I have been a nurse for 17 years and there are days that I feel like I am overwhelmed but then there are days that I feel like it is the greatest job in the world. Take some time off enjoy your baby and then think about all of your options: home health ( if you look sometimes there is a family that needs a really good nurse to help them with their sick child-some one dependable that loves nursing but hates the other mean nurses) I worked for a family just like that for two years made 20.50 a hour; one patient and no pyscho nurses. Just know that if I was training you I would show you the same respect and kindness that I show my patients. Don't give up,there will be a place for you in nursing I promise !!!!!
