  1. kUDOS TO WDWpixie. I support what you say. People get VERY defensive. They will find out in time that they will be repeating MOST of their credits to get that BSN. I, and many others stand side by side with you nurse friend!
  2. Yep, you got it right! The students/graduates of course are defensive. I have nothing against them AT ALL. Sure they pass state board, I'm glad after all they paid! The instructors are good people too. It's the administration of the school, and the fact that they are not accredited, the cost is outrageous, and their graduates essentially start over again to get a bachelor's degree.
  3. wdwpixiern I agree. It's the students that are duped and tricked into going to that school. Just for grins, I called SBC and told them I wanted to go to school, and asked what the tuition cost was. I told her I would pay cash. SHE WOULD NOT TELL ME THE COST. Only to come in for an interview and then she would tell me. RIP OFF. POTENTIAL STUDENTS BEWARE.
  4. Labmum2: I wish you well. There are plenty of great nursing schools. Just make sure they are North Central Accredited. That is key if you want to eventually get your BSN or beyond. I was an LPN for 10 years, but once I got started, my quest for learning did not cease. I call myself a "hardway warrior", eventually getting my masters. With each degree, doors open for you. GOOD LUCK!
  5. Yes, they have been on probation with the State Board of Nursing several times.
  6. I would advise against you as the human pin cushion. The school has manniquins, you can use an orange as well. For the TB test, I taught my students to use hot dogs. It has a good feel like real skin and can actually make a "bleb" You are a good husband. Good luck to you both!
  7. To AngelaRN2B. Bless your heart. You said it soooooo well. I could not ethically remain an instructor there when I saw what was happening and how innocent students were getting ripped off. It is so very important to go to a fully accredited college. TO ALL PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS: Make sure the college you select is accredited by NORTH CENTRAL ACCREDITATION.
  8. Yes, they will accept you, but will they credit you for ALL the hours your earned? Example: If you graduate with Asso. Degree from fully accredited college, they should accept much if not all of your earned credits. It has been my experience that BSN programs will credit you with 1/4 of each credit hour. It is still possible to get your BSN - no problem. It just takes longer as you have many more hours to fullfill the 128 degree completion requirement. For your sake, I hope the college accepts your fully earned hours. Good luck.
  9. I was 24 years old - no training or no college education. Figured that I could better myself and my family if I went to nursing school. Tha'ts exactly what I did. I've never been sorry. IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO CHANGE CAREERS, OR ENTER THIS FIELD. GOOD LUCK TO ANYONE CONSIDERING NURSING AS A NEW CAREER!
  10. I am going to take issue with your reply. As a nurse with many years experience, I have worked side by side with EXCEPTIONAL MALE NURSES. The nurses I worked with never SAW men or women. We are professionals doing a job. No male was "effeminent" nor any female "butch". We are professionals doing a job. Sounds like you are the one that may need to take a look at your self. Sounds like if you have that kind of problem with the profession of nursing maybe you need to find another career. Maybe being a coal miner or a construction worker would be more "macho" for you! Good luck in your career, sounds like you need a change. I am sure the nurses both male and female you work with will not be unhappy to see you leave. I will stand up for my profession, and unite with nurses, and I hope other nurses will give a shout out for the same. Good luck Bubba.
  11. You are right, you are taking same NCLEX. However, it is not accredited by North Central, only ACICS, which is an accreditation that is purchased by the college. If you areticulate to a BSN program, they will probably only credit you 1/4 credit for each credit hour obtained at SBC. The quality of your education depends upon the quality of your instructors. I don't fault them at all, they work hard to provide you with a quality education. It is the OWNERSHIP of the school and their greedy/ shady admission practices that are questionable. I know what I speak about. I taught at SBC for 5 years. I loved my students,we had a high NCLEX pass rate, but I also grieved for them when they tried to go forward for a BSN. Several of the SBC graduates attempted to get into a BSN program. While they graduated with the required 60 hours for an associate degree, because it is not accredited, the BSN schools will only recognize and give credit for 15 hours. The rest (over and above required 128 hours for BSN completion) had to be made up in electives, costing time and money. Do the math and figure it out as well. Do not condemn critisize what you don't know and cannot speak about with some degree of knowledge about the system. I wish you well as you go forward in your nursing career.
  12. You're a good nurse, and someday will be a great one! I would do the same thing, and have! Keep up the good work.
  13. I am a PVCC graduate. It is a great program, fast paced for sure, but do-able. When I went there, I had a small child. I worked full time as an LPN at the time too. I went on to get my BSN then Master's. GO FOR THE GUSTO!
  14. As a former nursing instructor, I have given graduation/pinning speeches. Here is a neat way to start. Get a large piece of poster board. Draw the heart beat, you know P, QRS, T Wave very large so all can see. Hold it up then say. You know we talked about the heart, now I want to talk to you FROM the heart. It has a really cool effect! Then talk about how you feel from your heart about becoming a nurse. Good luck From a former instructor!
  15. When I started nursing school, I was the mother of a 4 year old and had a husband who was not very understanding. I made it through LPN, ADN, BSN, and MSN. GO BABY GO!
