  1. i lived in Charlotte and work at the county jail made 15ish as a LPN. moved to Tulsa for school went to work in occupational heath making 19 ish. finished school ( got my RN ) and went to work at St Francis. the counted some of my LPN exp as RN and my starting base was a little over 20. that being said rent is cheaper here =) don't have to jump through hoops to get you car tagged. etc .. i did like Charlotte more i think though. more stuff to do.
  2. i just got finished with the program in July and my advice to you is, only go to Platt as a last resort. it is very unorganized and felt thrown together. i did pass boards on the first try but allot of my class mates didn't. i think we are at 50ish % pass rate. its is a new program and may get better with time but for now i would stay clear. oh and don't get me started on how unprofessional the administration is ... i went to the tulsa campus btw
  3. ahh wish i would have read this sooner would have talked you into coming to MICU on the 4th floor =) i lived in charlotte for a while then moved back here. St Francis has treated me well so far. i have been here about 3 months now. anyways hope your move go's well. be safe
  4. I will graduate the Tulsa LPN to RN program in July. In its current state I would not recommend it to anyone. Maybe in a few years when they get the kinks worked out but with its current low pass rate, lack of accreditation and cost it just isn't worth it. i am in the same boat as some of my other class mates who want to go on to get our BSN but are having problems finding a BSN program that will accept Platt. Other that the fact I like some of the instructors, I cant think of anything positive to say about the program. The administration seems to be willing to say anything to get you to sign up. including things such as working clinicals around your work schedule, what their true pass rate is and their level of accreditation. The administration is/was rude and unprofessional on many occasions. if anyone wants more details on anything i have said feel free to PM me.
  5. Where i work the day nurse is often very busy and is unable to enter the pt's she has seen that day into our computer charting system. we do keep a hand written daily log. Its isn't very big and while some times it has enough room to put all the information on other times it seems to be lacking. I have now been told it will now be the second shift nurses (me) responsibility to enter all of the pts for the day into out computer charting system. I don't mind helping the busy first shift out but am a little worried about liabilities or legal issues. just wanting to get your guys thoughts or experiences in this matter.
  6. thanks getting input for people that have been there is very helpfull. hehe guess i am just chomping at the bit to get out there and do some traveling :monkeydance:
  7. i have been a LPN for about 10 years now and have never had anything like what some of you other have gone through happen to me. well some of my friends tease me at times. that gaylord fooker was no help but most of it was in fun. nobody will roast ya like a good friend:chuckle . i would normaly would respond with "what other job can you have where 95% of your co-workers are women"
  8. well i am a few months into the program now so a little late for that:) . could kick myself for putting off going back to school for so long but back on the right track now arg... all that wasted time. I agree with you that EMT's are very under paid at all levels . thats why i became a LPN :). i guess a BSN would probably do more for me than becoming a paramedic. i just always liked the sound of being a RN-Paramedic. hmmm guess there is nothing stopping me from doing both.
  9. Hey guys and gals First off I would like to say this site rocks and I am so glad i found it. =) now on to my questions. I have been a LPN for 10 years and was looking into traveling as a LPN but I got into a LPN to RN bridge program. (it was a hard choice to go to school and not just travel as a LPN ) so now I am trying to decide what to do after I graduate. Will my experience as a LPN count or will i need to get experience as a RN? I was considering working in a ER / ICU after I graduate and going back to get my BSN or possibly becoming a paramedic during that time ( if i need to get experience as a RN). I was a basic EMT before I became a LPN and loved it. any thoughts or input would be appreciated.
  10. Hi i live in tulsa. i have been a lpn for 10 years currently working through a staffing agency and going to school at platt for my RN. Jul 10 2008 is when i graduate jul 11 there will be some parting going on =)
