  1. Seem like it is more organized at Mesa. I hate when they pass stuff round the class thats important. Study sheets etc. Someone always get stiffed! Maybe its just me as I am no good at pushing to the front. My kids tell me I should start practicing line jumping at Costco with the food samples. The skills will come in handy!
  2. So the instructor sent a few sign up sheets around the class today with different choices for clinical next block. Its very sad to see the groups of nurse students jump on them to get first choice and also fill it up with all their friends names that they want in clinical. These sheets were like "meat' to a wild beast. One student cut in front of me to fill in the sheet. When I told them they said "I would do it again". I am one of the older students in class. Hope this selfishness is not a reflection of future nurses. Anyway thats my peeve for today!
  3. nur 121---nursing process and critical thinking ii has anyone took this class at rio for block 2. if so how was it? or any advice regarding class would be helpfull. thanks in advance.
  4. Met a lot of nice people. Can't wait to go back but enjoying the break. Really enjoy clinicals. (Minus the late night care plan stuff). Bring on Block 2.
  5. I just finished block 1 at Gateway. We just wear uniforms on clinical days. There was also a photo day and a simulation day at Gateway that we had to wear them. You guys might be different though.
  6. qaqueen, I just got done with block 1 at Gateway. I don't recall that we had a book called the nursing process. Pharm: We used the Pharmacology book and the Mosbys drug book. Process: We used the "lewis- med/Surg" , "'Potter fundamentals of nursing" and the "Varcalos mental health nursing books". Nursing Science: We used the Potter book too. Clinical: The "nursing diagnostic handbook by Ackley' is good for care plans. There is also a little pocket size clinical companion book that was good. You might have different books. The books mentioned are the main ones we used but some of the other books are useful too. Several students used the CD to access all their books on the computer. A lady from the book company came the 2nd week to explain all the software stuff for the books. Hope this helps. Azscot
  7. Thanks for replying folks. I guess the class is no longer a pre or a co-req. They had given us the wrong info at school.
  8. Now you got me thinking Cursed. I had got a note today (on blackboard) stating that to process into block 2 I need this class as a co-req. You might have got the same note. However I don't see the class anywhere an the Maricopa Nursing website as a co or pre req. I will speak to an adviser tomorrow. I wonder if it was a form letter from previous blocks.
  9. Anyone taken this class on-line? :typing. I need to take it for block 2. I am deciding between Rio Salado and Chandler/Gilbert on-line. I have never taken an on-line class before. Any advice? Thanks in Advance.
  10. Hi Stopnick, Any advice on extern-ships. What do you mean by "staying within your scope of practice"? I am just about to go into block 2 of the Banner program and I am keen to extern. Hopefully somewhere I can learn a lot of basic nursing skills. Thanks in advance
  11. Thanks Cursed Irishmman. Hope classes are going well for you. But which book is it you refer to? Are you talking about the "Nursing Diagnosis Handbook?" by Ackley/Ladwig.
  12. Does anyone have good recommendations for care plan books or websites? Something good with no fluff. Just all the info you need. And lots of it? Azscot
  13. I am only 1/2 way thru block 1. Cursed Irishman is at a different college than me. I'm at Gateway. I think we started aat the same time though.
  14. Ltc has actually been quite interesting. A good learning experience.
  15. Clinicals are seperate full days so far. 6.45am till 3pm ish. Some people have afternoons though. My uniform was around $45. Plus you need all white shoes. Show your student ID for a discount.
  16. Hi cherlee522, For us, classes started one week after orientation. Clinicals at Long term care started about about 5 weeks later (2 days a week). Acute care clinicals start shortly after Christmas break. You buy your own uniforms from a store in Tempe--they will give you a flyer regarding that at Orientation. I dont know how hard block 3 is. It is pretty fast paced but exciting too.
  17. Congrats folks. I will be starting block 2 by then at Gateway Banner Fellows (if i pass everything:smackingf that is) -- if you have any ?'s
  18. Good Luck Amburgerz12. Let us know. Bet you will do well. qaqueen: Classes are going well. lots of reading. Nice People. You start in March right? Which college?
  19. Amburgerz12, I just started block 1 with Banner. I was nervous at the interview too. I bet everyone is. I agree with Stopnick. I think they are looking for total commitment to the excelarated pace and people that are excited about the program. Arrive early and relax. Good Luck azscot
  20. Well done qaqueen.
  21. Still patiently waiting.

I took it at Gateway a few months ago. It did indeed include about 20 or so science questions. This was after the reading and math part. I wasnt aware of this beforehand. I think It depends on the school and which version of the test they have. Azscot

Use the password that comes with the book and go to the books website. http://www.aw-bc.com/applace/ Lots of tutorials/videos/flashcards. Even the whole book online. I took both AP 1 and 2 recently at gateway. Book is expensive but you can use it for both classes and the having password alone is invaluable. Azscot
  24. I just got a letter that I will be interviewed for October cohort. Does anyone have any advice for the interview? What kind of questions will be asked? What type of people are they looking for? I would love to get in. Thanks in Advance. Azscot
  25. I have always liked Gateway. Admin/Staff and Students have always been cool. I am finishing BIO 202 right now but I done 156, 201 and 205 there but never 2 science classes together. But it can be done as I see may student who do. I find it helps if you use the software/websites that come with your Text book. Good Luck , AzScot
