Thanks everyone!

I was just told at school today that it would be a smart idea to invest in a palm pilot with a good drug program on it. I have never owned one before. Does anyone have any advice on whick type to buy that is relatively simple to use and what drug program to buy? Any advice would be great!

I am a junior in a crna program now and there has been a few times that i have pulled out my ccrn in notes for a quick review during my anesthesia basics course! I would recommend taking it not only to help you get in...but it might increase your knowledge! Just my opinion

I would talk to the school that you are on the alternate list about what you can do to improve your app for next year if you don't get in this year. Maybe talk to the program director about how you would like to try CCL but still want to apply again if you don't get in this year. I am sure the school will give you the real opinion that you need! I will be taking physics and biochem for the first time in CRNA school. Is this a very difficult task? Should I stick to the program that is an MSN and doesn't have these courses? Any difference in the job market for CRNA's when you have a health science masters program vs MSN program? Any advice will help Thanks

Schools that do not require GRE:: 1. Kaiser Permenente (Cal State FUllerton) Pasadena, CA 2. Midwestern University- Glendale, AZ 3. Excela Health - Latrobe, PA 4. Thomas Jefferson- Philly, PA (If you have high GPA) 5. Some school in Rhode Island (Don't remember the name!) Kaiser is ranked #10 in the nation. Excela is ranked #16 in the nation! Hope this helps!

MICUGIRL...I am not in school yet but soon will be...is there anyway you could talk to your prgram director about a specific person that is treating you badly....maybe they don't need to be a preceptor or maybe the director could give you suggestions on how to deal....just a suggestion!

one other piece of advice to help you out when it comes time to apply! Know the program you are applying to and be able to give specific reasons why you want to go to that program! It worked for me! Best of luck

I really think this forum is good for asking questions about specific schools but when it comes to general questions of being curious what your chances are of getting in it really doesn't help much. Find what specific school you want to get into and then you can get more specific info from this site. Hope that makes sense!

ICU experience is necessary....no school (that i looked into) neccessarily says CVICU experience is a must. I personally learned everything i know about hemodynamics from hearts but as long as you have ICU experience you are good to apply.

jma what school are you talking about that the guy took one look at the books and changed his mind....b/c i was told that same thing at my interview!

It is normal to be nervous! Just try to prepare yourself as much as possible. I went through 3 interviews and was nervous everytime! All three of my interviews were just like a normal job interview....wanting to know strenths, why you want to be a crna, why you chose this program. Remember to tell yourself the interview panal as all been in your shoes at one point in time too!! Best of luck!

definately call the school if you are on the alternate list. i think all schools rank their alternates just like they rank the admitted candidates. Plus it shows added interest in the program. best of luck during the waiting game

Coco are you interviewing at kaiser this year??

CA actually has great maternity leave....better the any state! You are guaranteed paid state diability leave for the last mth of your pregnancy...or it can begin whenever the dr. thinks you need to be off work. Then after the baby is born you have 12 weeks paid through a combination of baby bonding and family leave ( I dont remember the exact names of those two things. It is paperwork that you have to fill out. HR can help you get all the papers!) The pay you recieve is 50% of your income pre-tax. All in all it ends out to be the same amount as what your take home check. You have to be working in the state of CA for at least 1 year to qualify for all the paid leave. You can take up to 6 mths afterwards unpaid and your job has to hold your position. One more tip...it takes a couple weeks for the pay to kick in switching from the first program after the first 6 weeks to the next program that pays for the last 6 weeks...so if you have mortgage or rent make sure you have that saved up in advance. Hope this wasnt too confusing and the info helps you! Cali is a great state. Temps are pretty stable all year ranging from 60-80 near the coast. Inland it can get hot in the summer!

I think if it is something you want you will make it happen. I am a mother of a 18 mth old son and my husband and I are about to move from CA to PA for me to go to anesthesia school. It is something i have wanted for a long time now. As for the financial aspect of it...that is why loans are made! You have such young kids that someday you will be their role model to pursue higher education. Make sure you have a strong support system behind you and go for it! At least that is my take on it! Like I said I haven't started school yet but the adventure will begin soon! Best of luck to you and your family!

keep a positive attitude. don't think your kids will suffer....it sounds like you have the support system you need to help with them. in the end you will serve as a great role model for them by getting a higher education! best of luck

i worked in an sicu while in school for the same reason...i wanted to go to crna school. it was a great experience to help me get a job in the icu as soon as i got out of school. definately do it! I started working on med-surg. my sophmore year and my senior year i did the sicu. your local hospital probably has requirements on how much clinical experience you need before you can work in certain area. just talk to human resources...they will give you all the answers you need! i just found out i was accepted to crna school this week!! The earlier the experience the better!

Hi I just found out I was accpeted to Excela Health School of Anesthesia in Latrobe. I am from CA and I will be moving out there for school and I don't know anything about the area. I would like to move halfway between Latrobe and Pittsburgh so my husband could get a job in the city. I have a son that will be 2 and will need to go to a daycare for the first time...so you can see this will be a big change for all of us! Any pieces of advice would be appreciated...regarding the good neighborhoods to live in....childcare....rent...anything and everything! Thanks so much

I know how you feel...I think if you know when the admission committee meets you can call and ask if you got in and most likely they will tell you over the phone! Best of luck!
