  1. I'm a recent June grad and I've applied to new grad programs prior to graduation but did not receive any offers. Generally, around what time should I be paying attention for the next cohort applications? When does the next cohort generally start? From what I've seen...it seems to be February? I really want to go on a medical mission but I've afraid that it would interfere with the application/interview process for this next round. Any advice is much appreciated. The mission I want to go on leaves at the end of October and I wanted to stay until the end of November. It seems like the timing could be a bit tricky.
  2. I'm Buddhist and I didn't really learn about any of our practices until I lost someone recently. We didn't know anything at the time to get a monk to pray/chant but after our loss, religion has really helped us cope. It's important not to touch the body for the first few hours because Buddhists believe that the spirit still lingers for a few hours after passing and the spirit can either be affected by what happens to the body (adversely in terms of reincarnating) or can still feel things that happen to the body. Buddhists want the monk's chanting to be the last thing they hear so that it will direct them to follow Buddha and not become lost. I also did a cultural project for my OB class recently and this link helped me with some of my research: http://www.urbandharma.org/udharma5/viewdeath.html As for being quiet and not crying...I was told to try and not cry so that I don't hold him back from leaving and following Buddha or to go where he needed to go. I learned after the fact that we can't cry on his face because our tears would hold him back. This was learned after the fact. I just remembered that they kept telling me to try and not cry at the funeral and if I did, I have to make sure not to drop any tears on the body.
  3. I was wondering when I should be looking for a job also. I'm graduating in June but I'd really like to travel before settling down with a job. I would probably like to start working around Aug or a bit earlier. I'm just concerned about the timing because of the competition and the different new grad programs accepting at only specific times in the year.
  4. i'm not sure if anyone has posted this yet. choc has posted many listings for the new grad rn program.
  5. My BSN program gives us two quarters of Foundations before we start clinicals spring quarter. Does anyone else work with standardized patients in Foundations?
  6. Does anyone know a physical store around here that I can go buy a Littmann Classic II SE stethoscope at a good price?
  7. I'm thinking about getting the pink one as well. Where did you guys buy it from?
  8. thank you so much for sharing the post Bryan...its very helpful and informative :)
  9. Hi! thanks for the advice. Wow...you're taking bsn classes and cna at the same time right now? thats awesome...best of luck with everything :) I've seen the abbrev PRN before...what does it stand for?
  10. Hi there, I am currently a first year bsn student so more or less I have 1 year and 1/3 before I take actual nursing courses. In the meantime I would like to take classes to become a CNA this summer...is this a good idea? I don't know if I would be able to work during the school year but I'd like to work next summer (do the hospitals even hire for short term like that ?) Is there any other thing I should/could do to get exposed to the nursing scene. I am familiar with it (only through observation) but I'd like to start with something more. Suggestions much appreciated :)
  11. Congrats! good luck on your interviews :)
  12. Do you know if there's a website that I can read about The Federal Nurse Traineeship? I did a google search but all I seem to see are school's pages that have it for they're school. My school just started our nursing program so I doubt that they will have information...but I will check. If they don't, how else can I find out about this?
  13. simplyVy posted a topic in California Nursing
Do any of you have any experience working for Children's Hospital Los Angeles? How do they treat thier nurses? Do you/did you enjoy working there? I want to work there in the future because my brother has a condition and frequents there often and I really like the enviroment and the work that is done there. Any info much appreciated :)
  14. I live near there. It is majority asian but it's nice and quiet-ish. The location is good because it is close to many shops (food, ect.) Not too far in Alhambra there's a Costco and all that good stuff. I don't know much about the pay though but I like Garfield better than Alhambra Hospital...my mom was at AH once and it was a horrible experience.
  15. are you talking about the one in alhambra/monterey park?
