  1. i went home telling my husband i had just made the biggest mistake of my life transferring to l&d. with the right preceptor and time, it gets much better. i came home crying everyday for almost a month!!! i felt completely lost. it took me a whole year to say that i was somewhat comfortable dealing with the stress of l&d. i work in a regional hospital (1500 births a year) and the training in l&d only last 10 days.... hang in there !!!!!
  2. Hi, I do PP, LD and intermediate care baby unit. In my unit you have to be functional in all of these. We alternate( 2 days in pp, 2 days in LD....) But, we all started in PP before doing Ld. You always need to learn the basic first.
  3. I'm from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I'm new at L&D and i've been given a 13 days training before i was let loose on the floor.... I'm going crazy!!!! I have 3 years experience in post-partum and NICU but L&D is so different. I just wish i had 6 months training, i would feel much more confortable...
  4. so today was my very first day in delivery room after 3 years of PP... Coudn't find cervix (probably not even close) on my firsts lady partsl exams.. My patient with 4 previous easy births had a very large baby (10 lbs 2oz) with major shoulder dystocia and he wasn't breathing at birth. I had to bag him for a minute. ( something i'd never done before) I was in training today so i was following a more experienced nurse but even though i love l&d , i'm not so sure about it now. I feel there is so much to know... I know i have to be prepared for everything in L&D but is this going to be any easier for me?? anyone with similar experiences?
