  1. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes we have to be grateful for the things we do have. You might have a leaky roof, but it is a roof over your head. Remember the joyous years you have spent with Sammy and I hope he will be o.k.. I'm sure your grandson has brought you much happiness in your life and as another post stated blood is not everything and hopefully you can maintain a relationship with him. Your next job is going to be all that you imagined and even more money. And you are absoultely right "this too shall pass".
  2. I had the same dilemma before going to nusing school. I got a B.A. in psych first. Becoming a nurse was a great choice for me. The opportunities are endless and the salary is descent. If you get a nursing degree and for some reason decide psych is not for you, there are so many other avenues with nursing. Good luck in whatever you decide.
  3. Hang in there. I felt the same way when I was a new grad on a busy med/surg unit. It will get better. I think being a new grad on a med/surg unit is difficult because the diversity of the patients. It's alot to take in at first. After a while I was able to get into a routine that worked best for me. In time I think the same will happen for you. Good luck!
  4. I use to work as an emt and know how hetic it can be in the ED. I feel EMS did their job by delivering the patient and giving report. I think it was the Doc's reponsibility to follow-up care at that point. Kudos to you for being aware of the situation and checking on the patient.
  5. When I was a new grad I was able to to get a split shift position between first and second (but I mostly worked first). It was always busy, challenging and I learned alot. Looking back it was the experience of working first shift that I needed as a new grad. If this is what you want I recommend you keep looking because as we all know there is ample opportunities out there.
