Creating my own agency
So I am going to get my husband to be the "voice" of this, BUT he is not in the medical field AT ALL. I was trying to sit down with him and "train" him so to speak about what he needs to say when he calls these HR/Staffing people for contracts. Except, I myself also do not know what I am saying to these people to place someone in an open position. I know that the positions around the country are the same ones that pretty much every travel company has, so it's just a matter of looking on their websites for the positions. But what does one say when they call to discuss placing a nurse? What does HR ask? I know its a lot of cold calling too, but why would a hospital contract with someone new? Or do they not care just as long as they have a profile?

Creating my own agency
Actually, yes I am working with another person who is not a nurse, but knows the business and my husband to place nurses, I have about 3-5 that would like to leave their agencies and work with me if I can get up and running. I would love to as a 3 year plan get into locum tenens for midlevels and physicians as well as RNs. There are a lot that I know of that want to do per diem but don't want to be committed to the facility (myself included) and would like to have the freedom to go where they want. My biggest hurdle right now is getting funding to get what I need up and running. After that would be who to talk to at the hospitals and how to talk to them to get what I want.

Creating my own agency
Hey all you out there, I know that there have been topics about this and there was a member that I wanted to PM, but I was not eligible, so I will just throw this out there to the world. I am once again seriously thinking about starting my own travel nurse agency (pop. 1 - ME), I have a bunch of nurses that have been interested in the aspect of travel RN and I figure that instead of sending their business to my current agency, I can set contracts for them. So my overall question would be, what do I need to do? What legal aspects am I making sure that I don't get in any trouble am I being cognizant of? What do these agencies REALLY make off of a contract for an RN? And is it worth doing locum for APN/PA, MD/DO, OR tech/US tech contracts? Thanks for any help, I would not mind a PM if you would like to do that, I wish I could give any other contact info, but I know I am not allowed to...

AANC AGACNP-BC Exam
So I wanted to see if I could get some help regarding my problem. I took my AGACNP-BC yesterday and seemingly failed by one question. Now my question is that for us acute care NPs, I don't seem to be able to find any resources to help with exam questions, etc. I took the Barkley review in August, have the review book, have been re-listening to the lectures from the review, as well as taking his DRTs. The night before the exam, I got a 78 on the DRT. So I am befuddled as to what I did wrong! I got all my clinical questions and that is not what tripped me up. It was all of those other questions...I got a lot of research, role development, priority questions (who would you take care of first). I got a lot of role development, like how would you tell someone at the place you work at what your scope of practice is? I know now that I have to work on all the other stuff, the issues, trends, research and stuff. But is there some place that has questions to do like we did for the NCLEX? Just to get a feel for those types of questions? Clinical info I understand needs to be mastered and I am actually really comfortable with that at this point. I think that the only way to "master" those other kinds of questions is to just do them over and over again. Any help anyone? Since now I have to wait another 60 days to retake

anybody interested in applying for the new grad residency at umdnj??
I really was, but I am way too far away from Jersey City to make the commute. I might just do the IV Certification course that they offer. I think I am just going to start home health care, because I can't find anything else and they are training me on trach and vents, so I'm hoping that with both of those classes/certifications, I can get into a hospital. (I'm also a new grad, May '09).

Online FNP Programs
I also am looking into starting an online FNP program. I also applied to the University of Cincinnati and the University of Alabama Birmingham (which may I say is SUPER affordable). I don't want to put off going to school for another year, because we don't really know where we are going to move in the next few months. I was just wondering if doing an online NP program was going to hinder me in any way or cause any kind of problems trying to complete it. I also wanted to know how to deal with clinicals, and if it is hard to get people to be your clinical instructor/preceptor, especially if there are other schools in the area that use the same facilities (possible conflict of interest). If anyone has any words of wisdom or any help to bestow on us, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

Usphs?
Would you know anything about how to get the medical requirements done and if there is anything of importance that I should know when it comes to getting all the miles of paperwork done? Thanks.

Usphs?
Sorry about that! I wasn't aware. Thanks for the update, I am glad to see we can PM after 15 posts. I was about to find out why I couldn't PM, now I know.

DEFINITELY:up::typing!!! email me. I keep thinking of questions that I have sporadically...I am really paranoid that something will happen that I can't get in. It is really important for me that I do, that is why I am continuously after getting information to solidify myself into the program! Thanks again SOOOO much for all your help. How long does it usually take to find anything out after sending in the application?

How competative is the program? Also, if I don't do the costel program, I will be able to get loan reimbursement? Also how do they usually pay out the sign on bonus? Will it end up being over 4 years?

I thought that we would be able to get tuition services as well. I e-mailed Mr.Pryor, and I got a response!!! Would you know what the criteria are that they are looking for to get accepted into the program? This is an extremely important thing for me, and I want to know if I can get in sometime soon, so that I don't sign a contract with anyone else if I can get into the USPHS.

Thanks...I was thinking the same thing. I think that the deadline for the COSTEP program has passed anyways for me, so it would be a better idea if I went with the bonus. I still would like to see if there was any way that I could get further education benefits as well. I still need to finish my MSN and wanted to at least start part time next year. I will give Mr.Pryor a try today and see what happens, otherwise I will make sure that I contact you as well. Thanks a lot!!!

usphs SRCOSTEP
I really want to do L/D, maternity. I would really like to talk to someone about the whole COSTEP/SRCOSTEP thing, seeing as I would like to apply to the correct program for me, because I am also looking for tuition support. I would like to keep it as a career as well, because the benfits seem awesome.
