  1. I'm in West Texas VA area.
  2. Thank you for the update! I'm glad to hear that HBPC is a good area to work in at the VA and that you really like it. Unfortunately, positions don't come open very often where I live...but I keep looking.

Don't do it! That is a liability on you, most importantly, and also the school district. What if someone has an anaphylactic reaction and you're then dealing with that along with a room full of sick kids. No way! Talk to your boss and go up the chain if needed.
  4. Travelnurse2, Thank you for all the info! Helped me to get an idea of what the job entails. Really hope I get this job. Sounds like what I've been looking for.
  5. Hi TRAVELNURSE2, I interviewed for HBPC at West Tx VA. I interviewed on Friday with the Service Chief, PA, & admin person. They were very nice. No scenario questions during the interview. Just PBI questions. HBPC was explained to me as a mobile clinic, which is so different than anything in civilian sector. I was told the RN is case manager, but soon will also be trained to do wound care. Also told caseload of up to 35, make own appts, & see 2-4 pts per day...can do 8, 9, or 10 hr shifts. Can you tell me what your days are like? I do have bsn & mhs. Any insight would be appreciated!
  6. Update on my VA hiring experience for HBPC RN. I received a call from the VA office yesterday to set up interview and had the interview today at 1100. It went well. No scenarios at all. Just PBI questions. Sounds like a great opportunity, but I was told they are still interviewing and will hear back from HR...just don't know when.
  7. Hello. Thought I'd share my experience with the VA hiring process. I applied for HBPC RN position that closed out 12/20/13. Got email that app was referred to hiring official on 3/5/14 & yesterday I emailed HR to check on status Got email back today that HBPC Service Chief will be contacting me. Got call this evening from VA that hiring official will call in a couple days to schedule interview. I'm excited, but nervous. Not sure what to expect with HBPC.
  8. I'm currently a civilian nurse at an Air Force base and am applying at the VA. Just wondering...does the VA require medical employees to do CAF folders for continuing ed? The CAF folder and annual appraisal, which my supervisor makes me basically write, are so annoying! I never had to do either one of these things in the civilian world. Thanks for the scoop!
  9. Thank you for your reply! I have never done home health type care so a little nervous about it, but have been a RN for 20 years in various inpatient and outpatient settings so I think it'd be a nice change. I like the idea of getting to know the clients without a lot of turnover, and appreciate the tip on clients being dependent and how to handle that. I currently work in an Air Force peds clinic and can relate to families being needy. I feel like the referral management department most days dealing with referral and Tricare issues.
  10. If so, do you like it? Pro and cons appreciated! I'm thinking about applying for the RN position. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
