your first....
:typing Oh my! I just remembered my first scrubs.....I had spent so much time studying to enter to the nursing program that I gained more than 20 pounds! I looked like a blue square in those scrubs! I am very happy to write now that I have already lost 10 of those (I bought new scrubs in a smaller size), and I am preparing to lose the other 10 or fifteen if I can!!

What are you sacrificing to go nursing school?
I loved all your answers! This is what I am sacrificing: a) No more teaching children in the church, I had to resign also from helping with retirements or Bible summer school. b) No more homemade Mexican desserts or cooking that requires long time; hot dogs, canned soup and frozen taquitos are the menu when tests are on the way! c) No more "Friday Night-Out" for my husband and me, though we try to go out at least once every month! (otherwise I will also need counseling as djmart;) ) d) No more "out of the sudden" weekends trips to the beach. the last two we did I had to take my books with me! (studying on the beach was good though!) e) No more shooping sprees; there is no time and no money left after paying for books and classes! f) No more gym, walking in the morning with friends, or making appointments to cut my hair. g) No more handcrafts; I used to make special presents for all my children's teachers; to give to my students in the church, and for my friends. h) Forget about volunteering in my children's schools or classrooms; no more involvement making games or events, no more helping in the Fair Book or Santa's Store.... i) No more long vacations in Mexico to visit my family ( I have not gone to Mexico since I began my pre-requisits) However, as others have said, I now do my homework with my daughters; my son and husband are very proud of me. My family and in-laws thought that I was crazy, yet, a few months ago some of them have returned to school as well. We now enjoy every little moment we can share; we have learn to look for sales and mail rebates. We no longer go to eat out every weekend, but my husband cooks in the grill outside every saturday and that is a new tradition. As for the weight and my hair, I finally decided to eat more carefully (no more quick-food), and I had an appointment to fix my hair two weeks ago. I have promised myself to lose weight and take care of myself. My husband is my best support, so he deserves a wife that keeps herself in shape as well as the grades in the school. Yet, I know is for the best!!!:redpinkhe

Students who fail
:loveya: It is really encouraging and a great honor to be taught for nurses as the ones posting here, though none of you as been my instructor, I have noticed how worried and sometimes sad our teachers have been when they see many of us (students), failing or not doing enough work. It is true and so sad that many students find easier to say that they failed because "that teacher is so strict", or "those tests are so hard"; however, there are also many of us who really appreciate your job and the long hours you spend preparing class, reviewing papers and making grades. Thanks!!

What age were you when you went to nursing school?
Thank you !!!!! Thank you!!!!! This was a great idea!!!! I was so worried because I will begin college in January and I am 49. I went to College in Mexico (Chemistry), but in Mexico I used to go to operations rooms and emergency rooms, sometimes I would change my work with some nurse because I really liked to get more involved with patients. I became a Stay-at-home-mom when my middle daughter was born with Down Syndrome, and though I have never regreted it, now that we live here (in USA), and thanks to the special programs, she did not need me as much, so I decided to go back to school. Because I had more than ten years without working or studying I had to begin from scratch!!! Two years ago I went back to college (community), and a few months ago I was accepted in the nursing program!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:yelclap: My only concern was my age, I will finish at 51!!!! But after reading some of the postings in this thread, I am soooooooo happyyyyy and more encouraged than ever!!! so: THANK YOU EVERYBODY!!!!!!! ALL OF YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION TO ME! Elsa*
