  1. give it another shot and try again. failure doesn't mean that your a failure.. it just means that you haven't succeeded yet. you could also try enrolling yourself in one of those CRNE prep classes. that might be of help. all the best and good luck to you!
  2. hey pawan, for references to help you review theory, i suggest you get the mosby canadian comprehensive review of nursing book.. as for preparing for the exam go over the test questions on: 1) CRNE prep guide 2) Mosby canadian comprehensive review of nursing 3) do the the CNA LeaRN CRNE readiness test hope this helps. and all the best to you.
  3. hey, not necessarily. maybe your results are still in transit. the date stamp on the letter i got today from CNO was july 18, 2008. that means they mailed my results last friday. and since i live in toronto, it took only a day for the letter to get to me. you'll probably get your results tomorrow or wednesday. so, just be patient. :)
  4. hey nursemanz! where do you apply to write the nclex?
  5. hey manchesternurse! i suggest that you check out the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) website about the CRNE as they own and created the CRNE. The website outlines the length and format of the exam as well as what is tested with the CRNE. CNA CRNE Link: http://www.cna-nurses.ca/CNA/nursing/rnexam/default_e.aspx i also suggest that you take the CNA LeaRN CRNE readiness test as it help assess your readiness to take the CRNE. The test costs about $40 CAD. CNA LeaRN CRNE readiness test link: http://www.cna-nurses.ca/CNA/nursing/rnexam/preptools/learn/default_e.aspx i can't specifically tell you the contents of the exam as we have signed a confidentiality agreement when we wrote our exams. hope this helps and all the best to you!

  18. Here's a link to an E-learning module on pain management and assessment. http://www.rnao.org/Pain_e-learning/index.html It has a great video that reviews all the key points on pain assessment and also included is an online quiz. Hope this is helpful.
  19. Big Macs don't have poppy seeds on them. LOL. It will be great though if they do. Instead, they have sesame seeds on them.
  20. Yeah. Because the source of morphine is the seedpod of the poppy plant. Morphine is actually prepared by etracting it off opium which is the dried juice of the poppy seedpod. Remember the opium war?
  21. I have a pt. who stated she was allergic to morphine. She had just had an abdo surgery done. The medications ordered by the MD to control her pain was Tylenol 3 w/ Codeine. When I did my morning assessment I noticed that she was tachycardic (P=130) and I looked back to her progress notes and noticed that her pulse has been rising in the past 2 days. This got me a little concerned that I brought it up to my preceptor. I asked my preceptor if this was due to any reaction with Tylenol 3 w/ Codeine and she told me it might be because Tylenol 3 w/ Codeine converts itself to a form of morphine. So, what my preceptor did was hold the medication and contacted the MD. My question now is this, does Tylenol 3 w/ Codeine actually converts itself to a form of morphine? If it does, how come the MD totally miss this out and still ordered Tylenol 3 w/ Codeine knowing that the pt. is allergic to morphine? This is just crazy!!!! :angryfire
  22. hmm.. this is interesting..
  23. yeah. for SQ injections we were also taught to pinch the skin and keep it pinched until you have injected all the medication. for instance, when injecting Heparin SQ you keep the skin pinched until all the Heparin is injected because if you let go it may go IM instead of SQ. and that is a bad thing because IM has a different rate of absorption than SQ, plus injecting Heparin IM can cause hematomas. for IM injections, we were taught that you don't really have to pinch. also, you don't need to do z-track method everytime you inject depends on what medication your injecting. just inject the needle 90 degrees then bam! :)
  24. omg. they give you an F right away for unsafe practice? thats punitive. they should have just filed a incident report and just put you on probation that you should really need to observe your 5 rights of medication administration next time you give meds or your gonna be taken out from the practice setting. it's not like your patient died or something. besides, you were being accountable for your actions since you acknowledge an error on your part and reported it. you didn't try to cover it up. so, what's gonna happen to you now?
