That's just plain CRAZY! :) Go to med school!

Med school to CRNA
I agree. Stick to it! By the time you'll finish BSN and all required ICU expirience for admit. to CRNA school, you'd probaly be in second year of Residency as MD. Just a thought.

Tell me what school is like...
I think it helps if you have a strong support from your family. I would never be able to do this w/o my hubby's support. I preparing him for the fact that I'll be pretty much gone from his and my 2.5 year old for 2.5 years... :)

Ventilators
Hey there, I do not think you'll get this type of questions simply because you are not required to know that in depth. I am RRT/CCRN and just got in for Fall 2007. My interview consisted of some clinical questions but none of them were about vents.(that would be great for me!) I think if they ask you about vents simply say you do not have an answer at this time and would love to get back to them as soon as you learn about it. This is the reason why you are going back to school-to learn. In any case here is simple explanation of three main modes of ventilation: They are: A/C or CMV, SIMV,CPAP. All of them have two things incomon they all have set FiO2 and PEEP. Only SIMV and CPAP have Pressure support, and only AC and SIMV have set RR and Tidal Volume. Pretty much AC only for pt. who can not maintain their RR and VT on their own,SIMV for those who are mostly chronic or getting close to be weaned off, and finaly CPAP just some PS no set VT no set RR, pt. must be able to maintain their own RR and VT with some PS. Good luck! I do not think you will be asked resp. questions though. Make sure you know ACLS protocol good. :)

respiratory therapists becoming CRNAs????

Please help!
I am not sure...I do not see how AA in arts degree will apply to Nursing!? Won't you have your AS in nursing though??? I know that should be enough for sure. In my case,I was a graduate from nursing school in a different country. I had a Diploma in Nursing. When I came to the US I got a degree in respiratory therapy with an Associate degree in applied science. After I was approved to take NCLEX,I then applied to UOP online. It has been a long road. Do not waist any time. Get yourself in most critical care settings possible as a RN,get CCRN and when it comes to applying for CRNA you should be fine. Well,GRE...get that done asap if that's what school you applying to requires. Good luck to you! :)

CCRN-CMC/CSC subspecialization
I agree. Getting mine was the best thing I could do to help me get in. By the time I interviewed I had RN,CCRN,RT. Getting CCRN definately made me more comfortable. I was thinking about CMC but I heared it is even harder than CCRN...well,not that it'll stop me,just have to study longer. Good luck to you! :)

Please help!
Hi there, That was my path....for like 10 years. Long story. Anyway,I can guide you to the right school for your RN to BSN program. University of Phoenix Online is GREAT! I did it in 1.5 years and with a 4 months old baby at home. Very good program! My only sudgestion, make sure youe GPA stays high, above 3.2 with 2-3 years of exp. as a critical care nurse, and also get your CCRN. You can get it after one year in the ICU. It aslo depends on school you are applying to. :) Best of luck!

Is there advantage to getting RRT and BSN before CRNA school?
It is great to have both RN and RT. That was the very first thing that they noticed on my resume when I interviewed. I did not brought it up myself though because it can be great and it can kind of be a disadvatage,I guess. For instence,if you take RN with no experience in Respiratory and teach her/him to intubate it might be easier to teach than someone who had an experience with intubation and mech. vent. and knows something or developed it's own way of doing these things. You know what I am trying to say? I think being RT is great in a sence that you have a base knowledge of respiratory. It makes it easier to start learning so much more. I do not think it is worth going to school for RT just to become CRNA. RT school is also 2 years and lisencensure is NOT easy. I found NCLEX so much more easier. BTW,I am in for Fall 2007-UMDNJ/CRNA program. :)

CRNA program while raising kids
Yeap,I will be doing that. My son is 2 years old. I heard it is hard. But you know what it is doable. So,for the next 28 months he is not going to see me but in the future it will all pay off, right. Got to think positive! Also,I think having a storng family support is important when it comes to CRNA school. Good luck to you!
