team nursing does suck, but i don't think it's all that bad. maybe i'm just used to it. we don't tape report anymore but use kardex's. we also get the vitals and give them to the LPN and she gives all the meds and does dressings, etc. if a problem arises, she comes to you. maybe i'm just used to doing it. but i keep lots of notes on my patients

sometimes i think it's ADD or she's crazy. she just laughs randomly at nothing. i think sometimes she does things or says things just for someone to say something so she can get defensive. she is the only person like this. i have never met anyone else in my life like her. everywhere i go when i get pulled to another floor, they know her too. she acts like that everywhere she goes.

she has been reprimanded by the head of critical care, but i don't know what the outcome has been because she's still here. she made a comment to us that she has a stack of paperwork on her. i just don't know what to do, but document. i love where i work and i love my coworkers but when she works, she just makes the whole unit crazy.

that's how it is on our floor sometimes. but we have to be mostly selective because our unit is a swing unit for telemetry and intermediate care. in our intermediate care we get all of the critical drips, transplants, heart devices. but when the census is low, we take overflow telemetry and some of those turn out to be medsurg, but not so much. on the other floors it's the same as what you are talking about.

We have team nursing at my hospital. for the most part, I work on a floor that is strictly RN. But sometimes we get pulled to another floor. the ideal is an RN, an LPN and a CNA. It depends on the census as far as the ratio goes. It could be anywhere from 8-14 patients. it does suck because you don't know half of what's going on with all of your patients. I don't like it because when you have to call a doc, you have to find the LPN and look at their meds. you do all of the assessments and charting as the RN, and some IV push meds. sometimes it's not so bad if you have a good team that works together. I have worked with a good team and a not so good. it's always a catch and miss. but for the most part, I like primary.

i work on a telemetry floor. with our telemetry, we monitor all the "heart" patients, chest pain, arrhythmias, syncope, etc. any kind of cardiac history. basically the assessments are the same, but you have to monitor bps, weights, output/intake. i hope that helps. med surg i couldn't tell you about.

it's not your fault. i have found some charts racked with orders on them after i have check them too.

the sad thing is that she has ALOT of write ups. but it seems like nothing is done. it's not like she has been just working there a year. it's been 3 years. you would think she had her organization skills down. she's always running around like a chicken with her head cut off. she says rude things to us like we are lazy and we don't do anything because we're sitting down. but, we are done with our stuff. we have tried to help her, but she gets an attitude when we help her, so it's like we don't even want to help her. it's a losing battle.

i don't understand why the bad nurses still have jobs. i work with this one nurse who is pretty much incompetent. she has been a nurse for a long time, but she can't seem to get basic nursing down. she asks questions that a new RN would ask. she gets offended when she's wrong and you tell her she's wrong. last night i worked with her and i was verifying her insulin. first, she came up to me and just flashed her syringe in my face. i saw that it wasn't the correct dose and i said it wasn't the 2 units she said it was. she huffed and stormed away. i told her she could get someone else to verify it because it was wrong. this was after i had verified 2 other things with her and one of the other 2 was wrong also. she said i was inappropriate because i told her it was wrong in front of her peers and a doctor. what did i say? her whole attitude and the way she talks to her co-workers and patients are rude. she has had many complaints on her, but nothing has really happened. she got mad at another nurse because she lost a pain med and had to take a urine test. of course security was called and pharmacy was notified, but she blamed it on the charge nurse. the only thing she has happen to her is that she had to talk with the nurse over critical care. these patients we take care of are critical patients. i worry that they are not cared for, but i can't take care of her patients and my own. it's just irritating...does anyone else have this problem? or is just me and our unit?

i'm sure you all passed...after the second time i took it, you just "know"...i think if you don't pass the first time, it humbles you..it makes you a better person...or that's how i felt...if it's meant to be, then it will happen...it will...God wants you to be a nurse to heal the sick...he will make it happen...good luck

don't feel bad. i had to take boards twice. got the biggest cold sore ever. i took all 265 and it took me 3 hours. i was the last person to leave the test site. this supervisor i know had to take it 5-6 times. so don't be discouraged. take the desiginated "breaks" and don't stress about it the night before you take it. just relax. good luck again.

i am actually working with the RN tonight. this happened last year. we work on a telemetry/ step down unit. she was pulled to another tele floor. so we heard this from the other nurses working with her. one of her patients pumps was beeping so another nurse went to check on it. well, she went to the room to find out that the patient had cardizem hooked up, but it was on hold. the pump was set at 125 cc/hr. first, it's a 1:1 ratio and we mix it in a 100 cc bag. the highest we run it on the floor is 20 mg/hr. so the nurse was shocked and checked the patients vitals and stayed with them. the attending rn finally showed up and said, " i was just verifying the order." luckily she didn't have it running. the following week, she asked us how to mix the drug and almost did the same thing. we sent the charge nurse to check on her patient to see if the right rate was made. she's been a nurse for 30 some odd years. another incident is when she took care of a fresh pacer. 5 am she tells the charge nurse that her patient was asking if anyone else was working. the charge rn went to the room and the patient had a HUGE hematoma the size of a softball on his left shoulder. he had said he had asked his nurse about it the night before at 9pm. she didn't tell anyone until 5am the next morning.
