US Nurse moving to UK
I started w Continental nurses which they will place you in a A hospital and I believe provide accommodation and flight assistance but in lieu of having a lower salary. but I did not end up going with Continental nurses and did everything directly with hospital . So I went ahead and paid for everything myself and got A flat mate and was able to negotiate for a higher salary with my 10 years experience. I'm also able to write off all this with my US taxes since it is for work

US Nurse moving to UK
hi, I currently went to the rigourous process of being a UK in the are in from the US. I did the CBT, and the OSCE three times! Please take your exam in Ireland it has the highest passing rate. And they are not such sticklers about little things which you learned and nurse in school (injections, CPR etc) I took a OSCE class which I found very helpful but I can't seem to find the website. I have applied for NHS jobs and got positions on the spot over zoom. but I work in the operating theatre so it may be more in demand. try Continental Nursing-London and tried directly on the NHS website. I leave July 2021, my Visa and everything has been approved and I'm set to go. Good luck with your journey

2019 NMC Decision Letter
I have finally got my NMC Pin after flying back and forth from California to London multiple times for tiny errors (BP 110/80 is hypotension) etc Hooray!! for me! A note for any US RN trying to go to UK. please take it at Ulster University in Northern Ireland as they have the highest passing rate and seemed more relaxed. I have a job offer at St Marys in London so next step is COS.

2019 NMC Decision Letter
HI all My DL took less than one month to arrive and then I was able to take my OSCE one month later. I live in US so I had to arrange flights to UK etc. Please email your assessment officer directly for answers, they are obliged to respond in 10 days time. Please take the exam at Ulster Uni as it has the highest passing rate. I have taken it twice at Swindon and third time at Oxford and unsuccessful due to little tiny errors. I have to take it all over again but this time I will choose Ulster. My application is closed but my new one opens up 11/15, my question is, Can anyone email me a blank medical clearance form from the NMC website. It will speed up my process to take my OSCE again. Thank you

Are you angry about the NMC OSCE???
Hi future UK nurses, I just took OSCE and it is year one of nursing school all over again. It is simple tasks but when the examiner is staring at you with a clipboard it just rattles your nerves! I said my mistakes and hopefully I get positive points for that. But seriously we are RNs that have gone through years of school and they are insulting us by making us pay all this money and test us on procedures that we do all the time. How about the ICU or Theater nurses that rarely give pills by mouth or give injections. Everything is given IV in the hospital. I just cross my fingers that I did ok and I also got a job offer the next day but that will depend my OSCE of course. Good luck to you all!

2017 NMC UK Decision Letter
HI Future UK nurses I took my NMC CBT Feb 2018 second time, turned in the piles of paperwork required. Decision Queue started Sept 24, 2018 and DL received Nov 2, 2018, less than 40 days! OSCE exam booked Dec 10, 2018 at Swindon. I will be studying the Moodles given me and Youtube. It is basic bedside nursing skills so I think everyone will be alright! I am currently living in San Francisco and working with Continental Nurses as well and HCL Medical for assignments. Good luck to all!

NMC Test Online
Hi Fellow future UK RNs I took my CBT today and to say the least it moderately difficult. There were certain subjects that I didn't focus on Ie.. PDGs, Independent Prescribers, Newborns etc. The thing that upset me the most is that NO CALCULATORS were allowed! The proctor said it was on the computer but there was no icon for it and then they said that they were not allowed. SO I had to scribble on my scratch paper D/H x Q and V/T x C =R, hopefully I got that correct. The CODE was on there simple questions of which area does XXX come from (Prioritize People, Practice Effectively, Trust/Professionalism, Safety). A few theory questions Freud etc. I had a lot that were flagged due to calculations and PDGs, student nurse questions etc. A lot of basic questions too: S/S DM I, CVP, safety, when to call MD S/S shock, when to take certain meds like Synthroid, self medication of patients. My fingers are crossed!

Any applicants for UCLA's FNP program for fall 2011?
I dont think I got into UCLA, because a counselor has been emailing me back and forth. He said letters were mailed out the Apr 1. The website still says not updated. I am retaking Physio at Berkeley for UCLA but I think that might be a deciding factor not sure. But I have already accepted at UCSF bc I had a deadline by April 1st to accept and could not wait for UCLA. Plus UCSF is top ten in everything and #4 in Nursing nationwide. Good Luck to all..

Working at Kaiser acute care RNs?
I am currently at Kaiser and I would say "Stay Away!". I was so excited to actually get a job and get in the big hospital name of the West Coast and I was so disappointed to see the lack of team work and work ethics and a bunch of other things. You have five patients, along with admissions and discharges up until 15mins before your shift ends. There are two nurses aides on the floor but they basically assist w ADLS. The RN has to do vital signs. There is an admit nurse who does the admissions after 12Noon and a Resource Nurse who relieves you for your whooping 30min break and she can help you if she feels like it. I am currently looking for a new position as we speak. Good luck to you.

What Happens If You Cancel Your Contract?
Im sorry baglady, you feel that way. Like I said you go into a contract blind, you get your phone interview and all your perfect numbers and then when you get there you get no orientation or barely an orientation, the worst patients, all the admissions and everyone is "too busy" to help when in CA you have five freaking patients!! and in NYC you have 8-10 then this is a walk in the park. You ask the contract to be changed a bit here and there and she says the VP has to look over it to approve the changes. You will always go in to a travel assignment blind, it is never easy breezy. But tell miss bagladyrn, which agency do you work for that your assignments seem to be easy breezy? We have to protect our license and our patients as nurses and if that assignment sounds bad or that are not even giving you hours to work then your contract in null.

What Happens If You Cancel Your Contract?
Hi Breezi , Thanks for replying. I dont think that they will go after me. It makes no sense, have a contract and not have work but yet I am still on contract. At least you had a schedule and simply called off sick. I hate to put a blackmark on my resume so I was thinking of working shifts with them, if they dont cancel me, but then that means that my contract extends forever. Did you change your bank account # too, bc I have direct deposit and Im afraid they will do automatic withdrawal. I had a interview at Kaiser San Francisco the other day which hopefully I did well, the nurse manager was sooo nice so crossing my fingers. I figured I could jus break the contract and stick with Kaiser. The thing is with these contracts, you basically go in blind, you have no idea where you are going to be, what floor you are really going to be on, because you end up floating and how much you are really going to get paid or how much you should be getting paid. Travel nurses are always taken advantage of, they always float, they always give you the worst assignments, they always give you first admission. There was one traveler with 5 patients but she had 3 discharges and 3 admissions with no real help. We should have a right to walk away from this contract if we dont like it and why should we pay?! Hopefully if Kaiser workd out, I will simply run from this contract and if they actually get lawyers or whatever then I can pay otherwise I will jus ignore them all. thanks for your input.

Aya health care/travel agency
Hi I did an assignment with then years ago and they were great! Now that recruiter is gone but I have a new one so I figured I'd give another shot. Leaving NYC to CA, I got a per diem travel job, whatever that means. So I get here to San Francisco and I have worked two shifts in the past three weeks! I have been getting cancelled every morning and my recruiter says be available for all shifts. So basically dont have a life and sit by the phone praying for a shift. So I signed up with another agency, my thing is that my recruiter is nice and I hate to play hardball but Im thinking I need to pick up and leave and change all my contact info or say there is some kind of "family emergency" and opt out. But I am not paying the $700 fee! because I havent even worked. So my suggestion, stay away, far away. I have a friend at Soliant and they are paying her alot.

What Happens If You Cancel Your Contract?
I am working on a contract but it is per diem but in my recruiters emails she said that I would be working 32 hours but my contract says "based on census" so I have worked 2 shifts in the past 3 weeks that I have been here because I have been cancelled every morning! I want to break my contract but I am afraid of those freakin penalty fees of $700! I told her that I am not even working so how can I have a contract for no work. She is very nice but I am thinking if I should just change my numbers and all contact info and Run! or tell I had a family emergency or something. My friend said he broke 3 contracts, that he just up & ran and never called again and he never had to pay a dime! Does anyone else have input?

Looking for BEST TRAVEL NURSE employer
I traveled before once with Access Nurses to San Francisco, Nicest recruiter. I got a 2 bedroom furnished apt by myself, condo style with all amenities (pool, gym, parking) all utilities paid for. It was about 30minutes from work but didnt complain. MSN Nursing sent me to the island of Maui, they were great. I ended up getting the housing stipend and renting a room from craigslist. Great agency, didnt ask for receipts. Most agencies are on a reimbursement plan, you front the $$ and they divide it to your paycheck, by your contract assignment (13wks, 26 wks etc). For example, I asked for $3000 for 13 wks so $230 every week in my paycheck. But MSN didnt ask for receipts so they money could basically go wherever since your fronting it first anyway. But the more you ask for, the less your hourly wage. I will start traveling again soon..good luck

HELP! I CAN'T FIND A JOB as a NEW GRAD RN
Well good news! i got a job at Terrance Cardinal Cooke on the UES. Not a big name hospital but its a start. So I got all my paperwork processed in one day and i start Aug11! Part time until a full time spot opens up but great pay $38/hr so starting part time wont bother me one bit. Since during nursing school I was working per diem to barely pay rent. Now I dont have to worry about $$ anymore!!
