I worked med-surg for almost 2 years right out of school. I did learn a lot, but then went to work in the operating room. I enjoyed the O.R. so much that I stayed and worked there for the last 13 yrs. The biggest regret I have is that I did not ever work in ICU, because thats where so much knowledge and experience can be gained. Now, I don't believe I could ever go to ICU, because too many years have passed. So, definately, GO FOR ICU!!!

I understand your question about the prep and I agree that it is a little much to have to label paint and scrub immediatly before you use it. That is just going overboard in my opinion. However, it has become our policy as well and there is not a thing we can do about it. Just grin and bear it, dear. There are so many more stressful things to worry about !

Most hospitals I have worked in, we do go ahead and bring the pt. to the room, but do not go to sleep until the Dr. arrives to the O.R.
