  1. I went straight into the NICU when I graduated 2 years ago, and to read your article is like reading back over my 1st year. VERY GREAT JOB!!!! I"m glad you wrote this. It's good to remember how far we come. I still have to remind myself at times, how far I've come. Thanks for sharing.
  2. As previously said, better safe then sorry, and you'll get faster with time. Can't be TOO cautious with our tiny babies. I worry about tiny little bubbles too. I've been doing this 2 years and still feel like I'm brand new. Always learning, and loving it!!! Good luck!
  3. I am also a new grad who went straight into the nicu and I could identify with every word you wrote! Very nicely done, and know you are not alone! I got called yesterday and was told I got one of the rotating positions, so I'll do 6 wks of days then 6wks of nights. We'll see how it goes. But every day I love my job more and more! Way to hang in there!
  4. Health is on the inside as well as the outside. I struggle with my weight. I am working on it. I also take medication that makes it hard for me to lose the extra weight. I am self conscious about it. But I also know that I have the biggest heart, and am very caring in my profession. That is something that cannot be taught or learned.
  5. I'm in a class of 8 new grads. We have 40 weeks of orientation and are in our 4th week in the NICU. One of my peers, her preceptor leaves her alone with their assignment and sleeps. Not only rude and unprofessional, but unsafe and embarrassing!!!!!!
  6. Try to get some clinical hours in the NICU. That is what helped me get my job. I always knew I wanted to get into the NICU and I'm still shocked I'm there. I just graduated this past May and our orientation started Aug 7. It lasts for 40 weeks. They hired 8 new grads. Guess it just depends on your hospitals. Your personal experience will count for something too! Good Luck! Ambra;)
