Hi! I am about to enter the world of travel nursing (hope to arrive in CA). Any ideas about car rental or shipping a car from the east coast to CA? Any other general advice is always welcome.

A suggestion that has worked for me is to write down all of your issues/facts in a professional, clear matter with specific items to back you up. Writing it down can leave you presenting basic facts and not just have pple think you are reacting on emotion. It also helps because when you are front of someone it can be hard to remember all of your points. I would especially note that you should were not informed mid-semester--isn't that what the mid-eval is all about? Best to you.

If the cardiologist wouldn't order why couldn't he call the attending if he wanted something done so badly. Collaborative Care! When I worked on the floor I would keep an eye out for the labs and let the MD know just because they may not recall as they have a lot of patients to round on--as a new RN I was lucky enough to have supportive RNs around me to ask for second opinions---however I think the MDs hold ultimate responsibility.

A suggestion that has come in handy is to take a breath, and write down the the facts of what occurred (not just this incident but any others that may have been connected to this dismissal) and your perspective. That way, when you do meet with someone (and I think you should) you will have something on paper that you can refer to. This way it won't come off as an emotional defendant response but just stating the facts. t.

I can respect if that's how you feel, but I know nurses who could definitely have gone to med school, but chose nursing since it is a different type of discipline.

Well, I would think you would have a pretty good shot at nursing assistant, that's what I did during nursing school; as for something more and beyond that, it doesn't hurt to ask their human resources..t

Well, they just used the soft side, not the bristles side. I think using the spongy part is okay, but I was wondering if the soap was too harsh (which it probably is, since we use it to scrub in).t.

So where I used to work some people used the scrub brushes for the full-term babies first bath, especially if they were very "gunky". What do you think? t.

I know exactly which moment you are discussing, and it got me a little annoyed too. She acted like she was just called a bad word. In fact, all those little side comments is why I stopped watching the show. I know some people say it doesn't matter, but maybe the producers kinda got the point that nurses were becoming annoyed (there's also a storyline where a nurse gives an intern an STD I think, but don't quote me), because later episodes began to turn things around a little bit (I believe there was an episode highlighting a nurses' strike and one of the interns getting the runaround when she disrespected a nurse). Then I started catching a couple of episodes here and there. I think it does help when something on TV shows us in a poor or non- professional way and people speak up..t.

I guess first, realize that sometimes there is nothing you can do, and people come in with issues that sometimes have little to do with us. The second thing is to really emphasize when parents come in why we do these things (i.e. more visitors mean more chance of infection, etc.) and that we do what's best for the baby, period. I also concur that everyone should be consistent when they enforce rules. hope this helps, t.

It's just that nurses are so present in the hospital, and we don't always see that..and where are the respiratory therapists, btw? Anyway, please feel free to write to the producers via the link; they won't care/change unless they know people are noticing..t.

I wrote a quick letter to the producers from this website: http://www.nursingadvocacy.org/news/2003oct10_er_contact.html It has a standard letter but I just changed it. I think you all made even better points than I did. Yes I know it's fiction and for entertainment, etc., etc. but you all know how unaware the public is on nicu issues also. (My 28 weeker with PPHN and NEC will survive and be home in no time with no issues, etc.). And, the way nurses were portrayed was almost like someone made them look bad on purpose. They seem to really like the NICU storyline but get it wrong each time; and we all know how the NICU environment is unique in it's own way...t.
