  1. with all of those stressors in her life she may be experiencing some type of psychological issues- in fact she has to be. I would say that if it were me I would bring it up with the person and maybe suggest a therapist. as a biweekly therapist pt for 4 yrs I think that everyone could benefit by talking to a professional. I also think that if my children were ill I would need some extra help. As nurses I think that too many of us neglect ourselves and get trapped into only caring for our pt's and families. Do something nice for her- offer to babysit so she can get a pedicure or take a nap, bring her dinner, or maybe get a bunch of people to pitch in and get her a certificate for super suppers/dinners ready/etc. the little things count too-so just getting her a coffee could bring her spirits up. People under that muchstress can easily drown if someone doesn't toss them a life vest! I lost a brother after graduating high school and I nearly drowned in my grief and stress. Thank God for the angels on earth (friends)!

I have been told that you would have to infuse well over an entire line full of air in order to have an kind of negative effects. I really wouldnt worry about it. I had pneumonia when I was 25 and it took me well over a month to recover.
  3. i would contact infection control and maybe even the DON. Tell them that you think this could be easily fixed. if they act like its nothing maybe find another job?
  4. I think I offer a slightly different perspective on this issue since I was in a BSN program- one yr from graduating and then dropped out to have a baby. the courses were hard and the tuition was more. Then when my baby was 3 I started a ADN program. The 2 are TOTALLY different and in ways that cotton candy probably would't understand. The demographics of the students in both programs were completely different. ADN programs offer a nursing education in a more condenced form and without all the BS classes to take. Also- community collegeallows non tradional students to seek their degrees- people working full time, or with kids to raise. Not everyone does things the same and so I think that pay should be determined by pt care and NOT how many letters are behind your name. I work with some real crotchety nurses with their BSNs and some super sweet gals from ADN programs. If it were your daddy in the bed would you rather have self rightous BSN nurse or sweet suzy????
  5. that willbe great for the nursing shortage. so glad I am done with it!
  6. I think every hospital has infection issues like this. I think that alot of the times the nurse that does the assignments is often rushed and doesn't have time to take all these issues into consideration. i would contact infection control to see what kind of policies are out there. Also- if that was my baby i would definately have issues with it. TB rooms are droplet precautions but I always use the contact gowns in addition to the PAPR. Do you have issues with CNAs, dietary, and housekeeping not following isolation requirements. It drives me nuts because they actually come into contact with more pt's than we do! Any thoughts?
