  1. YEAH BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. OH HECK NO!!!! You're never too old to go back to school. I'm 37 with 4 kids and I'm a senior nursing student. I'm in an ADN program and that's the average age. We even have a man in his 60's in our class. Go for it! Chase that dream! You'll never regret it!
  3. HEHEHE, I'm a celebrity!!!
  4. This is awesome! Its been driving me nuts to figure out if you were a NECC student! The math tests, nothin'! No one failed in my class. The instructor is great. She sends out tons of practice tests throughout all of nursing 1 so by the time the real test gets there, you'll ace it. Its all formulas. Ratio/proportion. Easy as pie. I agree with all that squee-gee said, especially getting in with someone early for your "buddy". Me and another girl in my class hit it off immediately and we have been each others savior all the way through this. Now are best friends. I don't know what I would do without that girl sometimes and we found out recently that we are in the same clinical group together! You're going to do fine. I sent you a private message with my personal email. If you want, send me your email address and I'll forward you all of my notes from nursing 1 and answer any other questions you may have! See you at the freshmen tea we'll be hosting for you! Good luck!
  5. Oh my goodness, thank you so much. You just made this make so much more sense for me. Now, I understand. When I was trying to hear it on my husband, he has a rather large belly, I heard nothing at all but bowel sounds. But, on my daughter who is a twig I could hear a faint heartbeat but thought I was just hearing the distant heart, but, in reality, I was hearing the abdominal aorta! Thank you so much for your help!
  6. I have a question about abdominal aorta ascultation. I'm a nursing I student and we're starting the physical assessment. When auscutating the abdominal aorta, what are you supposed to hear? I know you are supposed to place the stethescope above, below, and to the right and left of the umbilicus, (or I am totally wrong, we're getting so much info right now that my brain hurts for info overload!), but what on earth are you supposed to hear? I hear plenty of bowel sounds, but nothing else. Is that what is supposed to happen? Is it one of those cases that if you hear something, that's considered abnormal and if you don't, its normal? So lost right now. I've got the precordium down, so I know about S1, S2, S3 & S4, and in a twisted sort of fate, unfortunately for my husband, but for education purposes its fortunate for me, my husband has a ventricle septal defect, so I was able to hear extra heart sounds, but, the abdominal aorta has me so confused. Any suggestions? I thought I should at the very least be able to hear something on my husband at the abdominal aorta because of the heart defect. I think I'm just confusing things. Is there a site out there with the abdominal sounds? Any help would be great and appreciated! The good thing, no one in my class of 40 is getting the whole auscultation of the abdominal aorta, so I'm not alone. HELP!!!! Thanks, stressed out new nursing student :uhoh21:
  7. The best advice I can give you is to get an NCLEX prep book. I'm in an ADN registered nursing program and I have the NCLEX prep book by Saunders and it has been a life saver for me. I am not great with MC either, but, this has really helped me in that arena. A lot of schools have those harsh standards. My school, passing is a 73. The reason they do a lot with MC is because the NCLEX is all MC. It's to prepare you and get you ready to take that exam. I'm so sorry for your situation. I'm sure your daughter is everything you say she is and she will make a great nurse. Just continue to encourage her and really think about the NCLEX prep book. They range anywhere from $50 - $100 and they are worth every penny. She's really got to get a handle on the MC questions because that is the format of the NCLEX. I do wish you the best of luck. I hope it all works out!
  8. I was a CNA several years ago and though some of the things are familiar, believe me, I was still asking the nurse instructors for advice and help. There are a few current CNA's in my class. But, remember this, there will come a point, and I feel very soon in the semester when everyone will be at the same learning level. So, don't worry about it. You are NOT inadequate! Just because a CNA happens to know a little more than you right now doesn't mean your less of a student, not at all! Just stick with it and it will become second nature! Good luck!
