Hey all, i'm currently an 18 year old male going to nursing school for his LPN. I plan on immediately going for my RN, but its there where I get confused. Heres the deal, I could go on and get my BSN and head out to a CRNA school, which would be amazing money and I enjoy what i've seen and researched about the field. Or, once I got my RN, I could work on getting into a Med school. Here or overseas, it doesn't matter much where to me. I don't doubt that I have the brains for it, but 11 years is a very long time. I'd like to get into anesthesiology if I went down this path. Keep in mind after my RN I don't really care about money as much as the line of work, and while I think i'd prefer getting my MD it just seems to far away from me right now. I grew up with no money, so thats why I went into nursing in the first place besides my interest in medicine. Thoughts? Input? Thanks!
  2. They have a higher education, went to school for -far- longer and are harder to find. I firmly believe doctors have earned their pay.
  3. It only takes two years to finish up the training for an RN and it pays great. It's also in demand. Sooo.. Yeah.
  4. Oh, please dont let me change your mind on that. I'm just afraid that i'd be stuck on a ship and well.. I'm not the sea-heartiest of guys. I'm sure i'd adapt but i'd kind of like to stay on the ground By the way, does anyone know how to find a medical recruiter? Should I just check in the phonebook or is there a site to find them in your area? Thanks alot.
  5. Thanks alot! I'll look into it asap.
  6. Hey all, i'm currently 18 and in my LPN year. I plan on going ahead and getting my rn and BSN before trying to enter the Army or Marine nursing corps but i'm not sure they would let me in. I'd like to try and get a waver but i've had lower postirior fusion. So I have a bar in my lower back. It sounds -very- bad on paper but i'm in great shape, work out nearly every day and so on. I'd like to be an anesthetist in the military but with such a history do you think it's possible to even go for a waver? If you need more information, please ask. Thanks in advance! P.S. Does the Airforce have a nursing branch? I'm open for any that would take be besides the Navy.
  7. Being male is nice sometimes. While im usually not called any of these names, i understand where you're coming from. Sometimes it's harmless, other times it's an annoyance. With strangers I'd probably just leave it. Correcting them would probably lead to more drama than it's worth. With people you will be working with for a long while then sure, go on and tell them if it offends you. Just my take on things. Life's too short to let little things upset you.
  8. He's trying to kill you. Flee!
  9. Sorry is this comes off as mean but that seems utterly ineffective and backwards. RNs are more highly trained, why would it be wise to have an LPN supervise them? Sure there are some older LPNs who may have the experiance to but it just isnt fair to the RNs who put out more time for school in my opinion.
  10. First of all, you have a masters and twenty years as a nurse under your belt. Your life was a grand success by the sounds of it, be proud of that and what you've accomplised. Now, as for where to find less stressful work i'd check out the small family doctors offices in your area and the like, though I've never worked in one I'd imagion that they are more easy going. If that isnt enough, go back to school! It's never too late to go further than where you are now. Specialize in a less physically demanding feild of nursing to fit your own health. Keep in mind i'm a nursing student and may be wrong on the family doctor thing, but hey, chin up!
  11. I don't see anything wrong with it, really. Besides being a minor annoyance to nurses who already know how to do it it's a good thing. Nothing wrong with keeping your skills at top notch, eh?
  12. Huh? You're saying they moved the male students to the front of the list or something? Why would they do that..?
  13. This is the same system that my school does, so it isnt only in one place. I'd say more but everything seems covered, good luck and good studying!
  14. Well, once i'm in the hospital I personally won't. But will I have a problem with another nurse doing it? Not at all. I understand most peoples veiw of anti-smoking, but when patients have been through so much they sometimes need to take a smoke and calm their nerves and so on. My whole family smokes, me being the exception, and I know it isnt easy for any of them to just stop at any givin time.
  15. I have to call bulls*** on this one. He's saying that a nurse that can offord a good home is a bad nurse? I don't follow. Everyone could use more money, that includes good nurses doesnt it? If this is how things work then why are doctors/surgeons paid well?
