Accepted Columbia ETP applicants (and current students: some advice). get-together?
Hello - current ETP'er here... As far as banks - there is a new Bank of America branch and ATM in the area as well as a couple of Chase ATM's. I haven't really seen any other large ones in the area. I use Sprint and it works very well, I am not sure about Cingular but I haven't heard anyone complain about it. Hope this helps a little...

Accepted Columbia ETP applicants (and current students: some advice). get-together?
Current ETP'er here... Yes, we did have the month of August off and I thought it was great! Granted the other breaks are short, but the summer was the most intense and the break was definitely appreciated. From what I've heard, it was also perfect timing for all of the westcoasters to go home for an extended visit.

Accepted Columbia ETP applicants (and current students: some advice). get-together?
Congrats to everyone!! I am a current ETPer, so I can answer some questions as you have them. I live right by the school in a non-school apartment. I got the landlord's name from Adele, the off-campus housing person, so I didn't have to pay a broker's fee or anything. I really like my apartment and the area has never felt unsafe to me. It is about a 20 minute subway ride to times square from here on the A train, so to me it's worth the savings and space to live up here. Also, the summer was REALLY busy, so it was nice to be close to the school. Just my opinion, though. As for the comment about the teachers. I have had a great experience here and yes, some of the professors are better than others, but I do think that the accelerated format is hard to teach within. Everything is so quick! It is definitely something that you have to be sure about before coming here. If you are sure you want to become an RN/NP then I think it is a good program - expensive, but good. Congrats again and I hope to meet some of you in March!

Questions for Columbia ETP Students!
Anniepants, I didn't attend the official info session, but did look around the area some before applying. I attended the visiting day after acceptance and that was really good. I do think that not having interviews is a disadvantage. I guess it's because of the number of applications, but I think it would be difficult to choose a class solely on paperwork. I do think that the personal statement is one of the biggest deciding factors and saying everything in one page is not easy. Just be sure to mention your previous patient contact experience. I'm not sure if I will be around next Friday or not, but if I am and you'd like to meet up for lunch or a coffee or something, just pm me. Maybe I could answer some more of your questions. What time is the session? Good luck!!

Questions for Columbia ETP Students!
Hello anniepants... I am a current Columbia ETP student and will try to answer your questions. I think that anesthesia and neo-natal are the only programs that have a work requirement before beginning the master's portion. Your clinical experience is more than sufficient, as some of the students currently in the program have little or no healthcare experience. There are many students that have extensive research experience though. Keep the questions coming. I have really enjoyed the program so far - and I am now enjoying the month-long break!! :)
