In our LPN program the first two semesters are identical to the RN (ADN)program. ( Fundamentals, Pharmacology, Health Assessment, Maternal/Child Nursing and Adult Nursing). I plan on doing the LPN-RN mobility program after I graduate in August. State of Alabama requires you work 500 hours as an LPN prior to entering the Rn mobility program. Once I am in the program it is only 4 classes to earn an ADN. ( I completed all prereqs for the ADN prior to applying to the LPN program. I am doing the LPN first for financial reasons and for experience.......

I am in some major need of assistance. I am a first semester LPN student and am having difficulties in prioritizing my nursing dx in order to get my care plan going. I don't have any trouble coming up with the nursing dx ( I can usually find more than enough). My problem is narrowing it down to the really important ones and then putting them in order of importance. To me they are ALL important. I have tried the "ABC" method ( airway,breathing etc.) Any advice from seasoned nurses or students would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much!

I am in an LPN program and we are going to learn IV's next semester with 105 and 106. We are going to have an IV day at a clinical site where all we do is start IV's all day long.

Worked for 9 years as an analyst for a large health insurance company....had to get out of that cubicle!! I had worked as a medical assistant prior to that and really liked it.....Now I'm in my 1st semester of LPN school...planning on transitioning to RN eventually.

I find it easy as well. I LOVE the critical thinking aspect of the exams. It's more fun and a lot more exciting than regurgitating memorized material. I am an older student (36) and nursing will be a second career for me. I do prefer the analytical approach and hands-on learning! I'm loving every minute of it and making high B's and A's on all my tests!!

I am in my 1st semester of an LPN program in Alabama and I absolutely LOVE it! Fundamentals are about ADL's, Safety, Profession of Nursing etc. You will learn about bathing a patient,assisting in ambulation, toileting, grooming, asepsis, and some nursing history..all very interesting stuff. Why I chose nursing? -- Aside from breaking free from my cubicle prison !!My dream has always been to become a nurse and care for the elderly. I absolutely love our senior citizens and want to give back to them in a kind, caring and professional manner in the twilight of thier lives. I want to be a smiling, angel of mercy for them... Also, I would eventually love to get into Infectious Disease nursing because I am very fascinated with Epidemiology. That is another reason I chose nursing...the possibilities are endless...you can do anything from Labor & Delivery to being a school nurse to research....the list goes on... I am so excited and ready to get started!!

They still take the best ( top %). At my college they don't look at as many classes for points as the RN program does. They look at ENG 101, MTH 100, Compass or ACT reading score, BIO 201 and 202. A=30 pts B=20 C=10 or 5..can't remember. Max for LPN was 170. Max for RN is 200. Everyone does it different. Check with your nursing advisor..they can tell you what they look for...

Go for it! I applied for both at my college..the RN program is so competitive here!! I ended up getting into the LPN program. I'm going to transition to an RN after I graduate and log 500 hours working as an LPN. At least you can be working on the actual nursing curriculum in the LPN program instead of re-taking classes for points to get into the RN program. (That's what I was faced with!!) I have a 3.6 GPA and had taken all my pre-requisites for the RN program, with my lowest grade being a B and still could not get in!! I was retaking classes I made B's in to try and get an A for points!! How crazy is that??!! Now there is a light at the end of the tunnel !! Best wishes to you...

I used to be employed by a large health insurance company and they had RN's ( BSN, or actively seeking BSN ) who worked in the Medical Review area reviewing records and making determinations based on benefits for coverage. It is a desk (cubicle) job. You might look into that. Good Luck
