Understanding ABG's
can some one explain to me why a dr I spoke with says the following indicates metabolic acidosis. I would think respiratory, he says no. the HCO3 wasn't given, the CO2 was 40, and the PaO2 was 40. pt was vented after being found in a bin after inhaling methan gas, ammonia and had no respirations. was intubated and now on FIO2. ph is 7.25. I am an lpn to rn student and have always understood the same way dorimar explained it but he says my dx isn't correct.... is he crazy, or am I??

Roll Call, LPN to RN Students!!!
I am a 35 y.o lpn of 13 years. I am a mother to a 21 and a 19 y.o dtrs and mother to a 16 y. o dtr and a 11 y.o dtr. my husband an I only see each other n the wknd as we both work full time and i work first shift, he works 3p-3a. I just started 2 of my 4 pre-req while waiting for the nursing program to send out acceptance letters in april for the advanced placement program. I figure as long as I am accepted into the program I will be done by next spring semester. I am trying to get back into the swing of this schoolwork as it has been 13 years since I have HAD to study. My girls think it is great...mom has to do her homework before she can watch any tv. i hate it when the kids turn your rules around on you.

The College Network?
I did quite a bit more research last night. I am having some difficulty wrapping my head around some of it for some reason. Thus far it seam like a better plan to take the pre-req classes locally at a cc and then just do the excelsior testing. that is where i get confused. dont you have to pay to pay to enroll in excelsior and also pay tuition for their nursing classes??the local nursing program just doesn't relaly work for me since I have young kids. thanks!!
