Question on GPA
Didn't hurt my chances.

cheating classmate
The first thing I want to say is congrats for doing so well in school. You should be very proud. One thing I learned in school real quick is to go, do your work, and earn your grades. Try not to compare yourself to anyone or 'chase'. You earned your grades by your hard work. They are yours. If you compare, it will cause stress and in turn could cause your grades to go down because you are so worried about it! Keep up your hard work!!!! Also-never share your grades with anyone. If anyone asks you how you are doing, it's no ones business - whether you get an A, or an F. Just some friendly advice :) (Sorry a little off topic). If it's gossip, keep it that way. Unless you see something do not get into it. If your friends or classmates saw it, they should bring it up. Just make sure there is evidence to back it up. As for what is going on in clinicals. Part of a nurses job is to keep your PATIENTS SAFE. You are their advocate. If YOU SEE someone doing something out of their scope of practice, which includes nursing students not doing something they are yet qualified or trained to do - I think it should get reported. Especially med passing. I know when I was in school, the instructor had to be present when passing meds. This also bothers me because the Actual nurse who has that patient for the day is told what the students are doing - and if they are told a student is not passing meds - they are going to go and pass the meds. It sounds like a potential for double dosing to me. If this is going on and it is actually witnessed, it needs to be reported. As for the cheating - I agree with everyone else. It'll come back to her. I know someone who did this in school and she failed out our last semester. She'll either fail out, eventually get caught, or maybe pass - but the chances are passing boards are slim if she has no idea what in the heck she is learning. Just keep up your hard work and good luck in nursing school!

RN Student looking for guidance
Hi Krider. First - Congrats on getting this far! You will be done with your senior year before you know it! Your situation was comparable to mine when I graduated (which was almost a year ago!). I was working as an aide. I was offered a position on my floor. Sometimes I wonder if I really should have taken the job. I work on a unit that probably isn't the best for new grads, but I decided to take the job while I was still in school. There are some good and some bad things about it. How do you feel overall about accepting it? I took the job on my floor because I knew the floor and thought it would be to my advantage to start there since I already have a comfort there. Another part of me wanted to look elsewhere. I wanted to work in Pediatric Oncology, a total 180 from where I am now. I thought I'll start on my floor and eventually move into that after I have my med-surg experience. I'm sure I still can, but the way I see it, I will see where life takes me. I'm comfortable where I am now, but know there is so many opportunity out there, that if I want to switch later I most likely can. Other people who mentored me told me differently. They told me go straight to peds if that's what you want to do. Don't worry about getting your general exp prior to that. But honestly I still don't know. I think it's a choice that will take time to make, but I will say this. I wouldn't put anything in stone yet. A part of me wishes I did. If they really want you, they will take you if you wait. A lot of people may disagree with me here, but the way I see it - if they don't, then they can't want you that bad. Just tell them you are interested, but you want to keep your options open to make sure you are making the right choice for YOU!!!!!!! I would highly suggest you getting a hold of the nurse managers in the ICU's, let them know that you are working on this type of unit and will be graduating, but would like the opportunity to shadow to see how you would like the ICU. Or just apply and they will most likely give you a shadow experience before that. I have no idea if any of that helped, but I hope it did. If you have any questions let me know.

Poll for those who have already taken NCLEX..
1. how many questions did you take on nclex? 76 2. what study materials did you use? did you take a test review course? i took a review class and basically studied off the thousands of pages in the packets we received. 3. did your son offer any testing (eri, ati, hesi)? ati 4. how long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? i checked with the board of nursings website the next day. i waited, and waited, and kept checking every couple hours (okay..minutes), and finally it was up around 3:30 pm. took the test at 8 am the day before. 5. what were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? i felt like a huge failer, just like everyone else. my family stayed away from me between the time of my test and my results. i was grouchy. i still don't believe i passed! my last 15 questions seemed toooo easy. and my last one was basic knowledge. no application. so yeah...you never know. 6. was this your first attempt at nclex? yes!

Long Time No Post - Question between NG & Army
Hi everyone - I haven't posted that much and I haven't been to the boards in awhile (busy in school). Today we had a career fair and the national guard was there. I've had my heart on the Army Nurse Corps Reserves for a year now. Ofcourse the National Guard recruiters didn't tell me much except everyone hates the Army reserves. I pretty much expected that. But can anyone please go over the difference in duties between the two and life in the two. I'm pretty sure I'm still leaning toward Army, but I'd still like to get some input. I've pretty much seen only the differences of army and navy on here! Also, when do you start doing the paperwork & packets for the army nurse corps? Since I switched schools my ADN will be pushed back to April 2008. Thanks for your help in advance :)

Student Nurse - A Few Questions...Reserves to active duty....ect
I didn't put my number on the form :) He sent me his number though and we are also communicating by mail and email. I'm not quite ready for a sit down. I talked to a recruiter last semester for nursing during a job fair which is when I originally learned about the ADN program in the Army Reserve. He answered lots of questions then. I still have some, but I'm working on that. I'll fill you in when I learn more.

Student Nurse - A Few Questions...Reserves to active duty....ect
https://www.goarmy.com/amedd/nurse/send_for_info.jsp I filled out the form at the link above and I got a health care recruiter. As long as you fill that form out you should be okay. Good luck!

Student Nurse - A Few Questions...Reserves to active duty....ect
No I don't mind :) Someone probably already answered the first part of the question, but you can do the reserves, but not go active duty. I don't think there is anywhere for us to join up while in the program (anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong cause I would be interested in such a program if it did exist). I mean, I *believe* we would be able to enlist, but not be comissioned. Again, I'm not yet in the army so I'm not sure on this. I would call a recruiter and ask. I finally got an email back from the recruiter I was trying to contact. Hopefully we'll be able to meet and set something up to talk more about the reserves. If I'm not graduating till next December, is it too early to start this? Or should I wait till sooner to sit down and talk with recruiter. My thought is it's never too early. Thanks.

Student Nurse - A Few Questions...Reserves to active duty....ect
Thanks for responding. I did contact a healthcare recruiter. Do the recruiters normally give you the time if you still have a year and a half till graduation? Or do they normally wait till your graduation is approaching? (hopefully that makes some sense.) Thanks in advance for your help.

Student Nurse - A Few Questions...Reserves to active duty....ect
hi everyone, i'm new here and just wanted to post a few questions i've had. i think i did a pretty good job reading over the forum so i wouldn't ask questions that have been asked multiple times already, but if i do i apologize! right now i'm transferring to a different nursing school. when i'm done with school, i'd like to join the military. i will be graduating in december of 07. i've been working really hard on getting into the best shape of my life (even though i'm only 22, i got a bit out of shape after highschool!) and can't wait till i've achieved all my goals. at my old school there were recruiters on hand and i've read over the information they gave me and i'm really interested! i will have my adn. i was thinking the best bet for my was to join the army nurse corps reserves. this is where it gets tricky. i want and will continue my education (i need the money to do so....) and figured since i want to be in the military the reserves is the best route. the information i picked up and the recruiter told me that you have to have your adn for the reserves and in order to move up past captain and become active duty status is to get your bsn or higher. the information i received would be that i'd receive a $15,000 sign on bonus for reserves (5g each year for three years) and would have to make a commitment of 8 years in the reserve. now, my question is i'm pretty sure i'm capable of completing my rn-msn before those 8 years are up. i guess what i'm asking is will i be able to go to active duty full time and leave the reserves? will active duty cancel out (so to speak) the reserve commitment? also, [color=#000040]i know there is tuition assistance after members leave the military for school (gi bill)[color=#000040], but are there any programs to help you while you are in school for your asn? i think i read in another thread that bsn students get monthly stipends? also, will they pay back loans for an adn degree? i contacted a healthcare recruiter who sent me information by email and i emailed him some of these questions but haven't heard anything back. (so surprising since lots of threads have comments about not giving personal info because they don't want a million calls). [color=#000040] [color=#000040]if anyone is able to help me out with this i would appreciate it! have a great day! [color=#000040]
