  3. Hi everyone: Just a quick question from a lab I'm working on.. As per the title.. I'm thinking because of larger bore in PICC, less chance of systemic infection, PICC can stay in place for extended periods of time.. Any feedback would be very helpful Thanks
  4. Hey That's Awesome!! I'm going to be in your boat pretty much.. I will be graduating from a BN program in 2010 and then want to go right into the ICU and then apply to CRNA school after 1 year experience.. I will be 34 upon graduation from the BN program.. Where did you get your first ICU job? I'm from Canada and will be moving to the USA to work.. Would like to get a job where I can move right into a CRNA program without having to move again.. I also want to work 70-80hr per week, for the money and experience.. Great story! Very inspiring! Any info greatly appreciated!
  5. Wow, thanks for the docs! Great help... I will be reviewing these for the next 3 years before I apply.. Terry

  9. Hey: I'm pretty sure it is the nebulizer. What if the clients weight was 12kg. Thanks
  10. Hey Morte: What units of measure?? The 1:1000?? I'm thinking 1part epinephrine to 1000 parts NaCl?? 0.05ml/kg/dose in 2-3 ml of NaCl .. Usual dose is 0.25ml to 0.5 ml/dose.. all the questions said was 1:1000 give 5mls q1hr PRN?? Thanks for the help
  11. Hello: I need to do a dosage calculation for epinephrine in a nebulizer and it seems like the doc is prescribing 10x the recommended dose... Here is the info epinephrine: 1:1000 0.05ml/kg/dose in 2-3 ml of NaCl via nebulizer upto q1hr prn (usually .25 - .5ml/dose) that is what it said in the drug book.. for example if someone weighted 12kg the max safe dose would be 0.05 X 12 = 0.6ml.. If an order stated 5ml q1hr PRN??? This would seem to be 10x the recommended dose..?? Can anyone point out where I may be going wrong or how to do this calculation for nebulizer epinephrine Thanks
  12. Ahh.. Yeah, can you recommend a good care plan book, because the 20 or 30 dollars for the book would be well worth it in time saved Thanks Terry.
  13. How is it cheating??? There should be standardized care plans.. the whole point of a care plan is to provide the best care possible.. Why not make care plans that everyone can use..?? Terry.
  14. thanks for the info! i would have thought there would be a standardized care plan for mothers who have given birth by lady parts and for mothers who has given birth via c-section... for example, checking fundus and flow and expected outcomes and signs of hemorrage and oxytocin given.. etc.. etc.. and care for episotomies... other things. since pregnancy is a normal thing... and 9/10 you are doing the same thing for a post-partum mother, you would think there would be a standard care plan made up.. thanks terry.
  15. Hello all: I'm starting my maternity rotation next week and was wondering if anyone had a standard care plan for mothers who have had a lady partsl birth and one for mothers who have had a c-section? It would be a huge help.. My instructor said that is pretty much what we will be doing for the 5 weeks.. Any help is great Thanks Terry.
  16. wow, lots of great info! thank you.. I really liked the opening about staying that this is what I need to do and why! Thanks a lot. This is my second year, so I had a rotation in family practice, but did very basic care, such as hygine and bed making.. It was good experience to get use to being around patients and the hospital.. I'm going into L&D next semester.. This semester will be the psyc ward, Really looking forward to that! Should be great Thanks Terry.
  17. Hello everyone: I'm going into my second year and will be doing a L&D rotation.. I do believe they will be shortening it to 2 weeks instead of the usual but would like to hear from any guys how their experiences were on that rotation and any tips that could suggest. I'm really looking foward to the rotation, so that is a positive things.. Thanks Terry.
  18. Hello thanks for that! So when you say transcutaneous, do you mean the test on the forehead of the baby? Terry.
  19. Hello: I'm going to be doing a rotation in labour and delivery and have not been able to find the answer to this question.. Is there a chart that anyone knows of that shows the levels of bilirubin a new born baby should have? What levels are considered to be jandice levels... Thanks for all the help. As well if any male nurses have any tips for me as a guy working on labour and delivery that would be great as well.. Really looking foward to the experience.. Thanks Terry.
