Ethical Death or Not?
Thank you Tazzi, I do feel better. I know I shouldn't be beating myself up about it. I am struggling because I don't know how to feel. I feel saddened, happy that her suffering is over, and tearful because someone has lost a loved one. When I found out, I felt my heart jump out of my chest. Do you think she really " heard" me? I have read that hearing and touch are the last 2 senses to go.

Ethical Death or Not?
Thank you to all who replied. I am not sure as to why he feels the way he does either. From a christian viewpoint I know that there wasn't anything I could have or should have done different. But, I can't help wondering if that suppository ( isn't the orifice connected to the vagus nerve, possibly her heart?) might have exacerbated things.

Ethical Death or Not?
Hi, I need to get an opinion. My fiance' and I are having a "difference of opinion" as you could say. Today, for the first time, I had a patient pass away. She had ESRD, COPD, the whole nine. Her family was still trying to make her better. She had this test, that test, Vanco here, Morphine there. I was, to be honest, scared to go in her room at first. I had a coworker come with me while I changed her position Q4 hrs. She had a stage 4 decubeon her coccyx. Face it folks, this woman was suffering. I was curious as to the signs of impending demise so I went online and looked it up. She had every one of these signs starting with the confusion, loss of speech, loss of ambulation, eventually becoming non-responsive. I also had read that some people just keep "hanging in there" so to speak. The day before yesterday she had her "miraculous recovery type" good day and then went backwards. I had her on 5L o2 with a rebreather mask. She was o2 sat 94%. Everytime I changed her position her sat would drop down to the 80's. The CNA had taken vitals and forgot to tell me that she had a temp of 101.3. I put icebags under her arms and gave her a Tylenol suppository and that's when she crashed. But, before this all happened I had sat with her a few times and rubbed her arm and told her that she didn't have to hang on anymore, that it was alright and she could go. My fiance' thinks that this is unethical or possibly illegal. Please help me with your opinion. I have more to tell but I'm running out of room.

Good Luck!! You know, I don't care that the state is short staffed! :angryfire Why don't they hire more employees especially since we have a nursing shortage going on!! Wouldn't that make more sense?? I have been waiting now 7 days for my license number to show up on the website, I sent in my $100 overnight on Aug 9th. Thanks to our wonderful mail system, I got my money back since it didn't get there until the 11th. I called them on Tues, 15th only to be told that it takes 7-10 days to process it?? Hello?? I got it to them in 2 days!! What are they doing with it, sitting on it until they are good and ready to process it?? And then, I was told that it would be another 3-7 days before it was posted to the website!! OMG, could this state be any slower?? And you know, if it was something (especially monetary) that was needed from you, you better believe that it would be taken yesterday!!

California NCLEX Exam Results
For all of you who live in California don't fret about how long it takes to get your results back ( easier said than done, right ? ) I took the NCLEX on July 12th and when I did I ran into a girl from my class. Well, I left feeling that awful, sinking, feeling that you get, like I totally bombed! I kept hearing 23 days, 19 days, and 2 weeks people were getting their results so I thought they were going to come any day, right? So, for almost 4, agonizing weeks I waited to get my results. Last Wed, (3 weeks to the day) I called and they told me they had just processed my results THAT DAY!! So, I thought I would get my results either Sat or Mon/Tues. I heard yesterday ( they didn't come!!) that my classmate who had taken hers the same day as me and who lives in the same city that I do, had gotten hers on Mon !! What gives?? So, I called again, only to be told that they had been processed LAST WED!! So, long story short (and many sleepless- NOT KIDDING_ nights) I finally got them today and.... I PASSED!!!!!! So, maybe this will make some of you feel just a little bit better I hope about the disasterous long wait for your results. Good Luck to you all!!!:balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just for those who are interested: My results still didn't come today although a girl from my class, who lives in the SAME CITY I do, who was at the center taking her test the SAME TIME I did, got hers TODAY!! She passed, bless her heart, but how does this happen?? Why am I forever going to be stuck in this endless sea of the unkown, is this someone's sick sense of humor??

Why did you take up nursing? What's your story?
Believe it or not, this is what I was destined to do! I started in this direction when I was a 17, taking an ROP nurses aide class. I absolutely loved my teacher, Ms Hampton RN, as she had been in the field for years and still possessed this wonderful compassion for the patients. Long story even longer, I fell in love and married my high school sweetheart spent the next 11 1/2 years raising children. Needless to say my nursing career got put on hold. At 30 I spent time as a car salesperson, all the while I had that nagging feeling (or Divine Intervention :) that I had to help people. I had two more jobs where I had that same feeling. So, here I am, 34, I just graduated LVN school in May and am anxiously (if not miserably) awaiting the results of boards. I took the NCLEX PN on July 12th and called CA BON Aug 7th only to be told that my results were processed Aug 2nd. So, in a nutshell, I am definately headed in the right direction and enjoying ( if not painstakingly) every step of the way !!

OMG, I took my NCLEX PN on July 12th and I still haven't gotten my results!! I am just beside myself, I feel like I'm going to lose my mind!! I called the board and they told me they processed my results Aug 2nd but depending upon what time of day they processed them will depend on when they were mailed out! I have friends who have gotten results in 23 days (passing and failing) 19 days (passing) 2 weeks (failing) so there is no estimated time frame for whether you pass or fail!! My test shut off at 85, I've been told that this was a good thing. When I took it I kept getting easy then hard and harder questions. I had alot of "check all that apply" questions which I am hoping were the "practice" questions. I seemed to have gotten more of these than my friends. Anyone know if any of this means anything or could possibly mean anything signifigant? Please, I would really appreciate any type of feedback. I keep praying (the whole time I was taking the test, although I did pray for the minimum amount of questions ) Thanks!
